All you yanks on here could perhaps confirm this or not but my nephew in America tells me that apparently they're not showing premier league matches on tv anymore in that country. He says they're now having to download some app to watch the PL.
I spent about a couple of weeks there in January and many times in the past and I know NBC had the tv tights for the PL in America. What the heck happened?
And I know for about 2 or 3 years now the FA cup hasn't been on tv there either. You have to download a paid app to watch that
And apparently even the CL wasn't on tv either post shutdown. I wonder if there's an app for that! ... Although he did say they watched the final on some spanish speaking channel.
I guess I'm just wondering if this is inevitable nowadays and we might start seeing a similar switch here in the UK or if this is just the yanks finally starting to get tired of "soccer" which , let's face it , most of them don't even care about.
PL coverage in America

Yeah seems a bit out of order that it comes in after the season has started. No idea where the CL will be this year.

Are they still doing nbc gold? Or is this kind of it on a different platform?

I had the email saying they wouldn't be renewing the nbcgold subscription this season a while ago so i guess this was always the plan.

Can't say i watched any pre lockdown and then it was on fox for the tournament wasn't it? I forget now. But for Wolves games in the Europa i got lucky as the Mexican channels were all over us thanks to Jimenez and the commentary is infinitely better than the ones we usually get

One thing is for sure. Paying the silly amount Sky charge will mean I'd be amazed if they've survive another 10-20 years. They're the next blockbuster video I think.
Now people have smart TVs/xbox/playstations I think the next step will be clubs selling on a game per game basis, or a season ticket for the full season, to watch games.
The need for a national broadcaster will drop off as sky and others have subscriber numbers drop, and their TV deals diminish.
Amazon will inevitably have some say in how it goes but I've no idea why clubs just do everything themselves in the future and cut out the middle man.

No way are Sky going to be Blockbuster...the product is too good...they are still miles better than BT - yes they might have to drop the price eventuallly....i recently dropped box sets & movies off my package as I can get this stuff free elsewhere,
& I know you can stream live sport from various iffy sources...but I like my footy in perfect uninterrupted UHD & 5;1 surround sound

With a good vpn u can watch nearly every game in HD with few issues. That's at no expense at all.
It'll get to tell point it will be to easy to not utilise it when the alternative is a sky/amazon package..
Sky's prices aren't sustainable and the quality of their product is a direct result of how much they make and can reinvest. That house of cards will come crashing down 100%.
It's a generation thing and the new generation's have no qualms downloading or streaming stuff for free when there's little difference in quality.
I just see a future where the club's sell games to their fans direct. Seems inevitable and where the money is.

£56 (the equivalent of) here in Oz for all PL, Champions League, Europa games plus some others like internationals, for 12 months. It's crazy vs what you pay back in England for just a few of the games.
That said, the kick off times largely spoil the whole experience anyway

The gap between rich and poor clubs would widen further at a ridiculous rate if clubs in the PL were allowed to start selling their own TV rights.
