South America pt2

Off topic...

A while back I posted about planning a trip to SA and got loads of useful and insightful info from people who have been (I haven’t)

Anyway, Rona fecked that one up, but I’m looking to do it in a years time instead.

3 weeks, Inca trail, October 2021, is my starting point. Other than that I’ve absolutely no idea so if anyone has any more specific tips and pointers it’d be greatly appreciated, I haven’t been much further than Krakow!

Yeah three weeks in Peru and Bolivia is pretty standard, you would do it all overland unless you wanted to take in the jungle lodge in the Amazon(I didn't do this bit but wish I had really), I went on a rough and ready type tour but you can do it independently to a degree. Just keep in mind Peru is no joke and one of the more 'dangerous' south american countries.

The group before ours was robbed at gun point on the road to Pisco which is South from Lima along the coast where you would get a boat around the Ballestas islands and also nearby Ica and a town I forget the name of that is a genuine Oasis town, will find the name, big sand dunes etc. You would have to research whether that road is recommended for independent travel these days.

Huacachina is the oasis town.

In Bolivia you could fit in the salt flats as well(I didn't, I was away 100 days all told going around the world so some things didn't make the cut). Also outside La Paz is what was the highest ski resort in the world, no snow anymore but you can drive up to like 5100 meters and walk the rest of the way to the peak which was something like 5400 meters. So fackin high, higher than anything in the Alps for example and approaching everest base camp height. You will chew on coca leaves for the altitude and drink coca tea or chew sweets

Yeah but it's 60kms of downhill freewheeling.

Well worth the risk.

That’s mega that thank you. I’m gonna hit it with a mate from Goole who lives in Canada now. So just trying to put a bit of a format together. Both starting learning Spanish too, even though it’s only 3 weeks I think at least a basic understanding will be both useful and respectful

You should check out some of the organized trip websites and just copy a loose itinerary based on the places they hit. Gadventures will be a good one to check out and exodus will cover similar, I forget who we used, may have been Tucan.

Yeah I went into trailfinders over here to do just that. I think they sussed my motives straight up though and gave me minimal attention and literature.
