Steve Bruce on the penalty.

“We got away with one, I thought VAR was coming in for clear and obvious decisions, it ruins, for me, the spectacle of the Premier League, I should be delighted, but I know it will bite me eventually. All we seem to be talking about is VAR.

It’s impossible to jump without putting your arms up to give you balance, it’s a nonsense. The whole VAR and handball thing in particular this year is a nonsense. We got away with one today, yes, but it could quite easily been at our end"

Well said.

I think the bias thing is proved laughable when you reflect back to our CL game against City or our game last year against Sheffield Utd at home to name but two
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh come off it, there is absolutely bias 100%, for example, you have referees regularly handing out soft penalties to certain clubs, when there is minimal contact and a dive, and sometimes even when the foul should have been given the other way, and remarkably VAR agrees with them.

Then you will see the exact same referees a few weeks later giving nothing for the clearest fouls you will ever see. They simply wave play on. This can not be down to incompetence alone, a 5 year old could make these decisions correctly.

This is exactly what Mourinho is hinting at, he probably did not realize it before he arrived, as he was usually the beneficiary of such favourable decision making at his previous clubs, but now he is at Spurs and can see the glaring inconsistencies with how our games are officiated compared to some other clubs.

Var has done lots of good and all fans can think of huge errors in key games or tournaments that Var would've stopped
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont care I still dont want it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The issue is the hand ball rule not var. Var can only enforce the rules and clearly its the rules that need refining.

Mourinho has whinged about the same at every club he's managed. It's part of his m.o. to make out it's 'us vs the world'.

Yes we know that.

This article is about Steve Bruce’s thoughts.

I`m still think Carroll was offside, it appeared whoever was operating the lines on the screen was moving them around until it looked onside. If the mug operating the technology has an agenda, it is all too easy for them to sway these fractional decisions one way or another, and nobody can question it.

You must actually be kidding. You benefitted from dodgy decisions to get to the CL final as well as countless dodgy decisions for years now going your way

Completely agree. He was more offside than Son supposedly was for his goal against Leicester last season.

This isn’t a VAR issue though. VAR has been ok so far this season. All that people have complained about is the handball situation and that is down to the ridiculous new rule

I’m not going to praise Steve Bruce at all!!
He might have said the right thing after the game but that doesn’t affect the result. What I did notice was every time the ball hit one of our players, all the Newcastle players were screaming for handball. For me, that comes across as they have been instructed to do so, and that would have come from Bruce.
Lastly, I haven’t seen anyone mention that Joelinton took a running jump at Hojberg to win a free kick that lead to the “handball”
