Maguire and AWB

Simply not good enough and a huge waste of money. AWB is younger so has a chance but his attacking game will unlikely ever be good enough and he jumps in too much also when defending which can be reckless. Maguire is pants and just so slow and not that good. On the ball he’s average at best and defensively not good.

What a waste of money!

But but but he's the best tackling RB in the league.

Maguire doesn’t provide leadership and doesn’t lead by example or provide confidence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The fact that he claimed the captaincy within his first season suggests that those who work with him disagree.

The fact that with Maguire playing every single match United's defence conceded a very respectable 36 goals (very close to City and Liverpool) and 18 fewer than the previous season - a 33% drop in goals conceded! - suggests some degree of improvement. Moreover, I recall Rosso mentioning that 25% of our goals scored came from the tactic of playing out from the back (which I assume to be a big increase on the previous year), so we're seeing an increased attacking contribution from the defence at the same time as a major improvement in preventing goals.

Maguire is not good enough for the level Man United want to aspire. When you go a level and come up against the best in Europe he will be exposed.

If you concede from playing out of from the back then it means your defenders and the DM are poor coached in how to do it.

Arsenal is a good example how to proper coach a good build up play. Two centre backs who position themselves in the box and the two DMs on each side who create a triangle passing option with the CB and Fullback. They scored from this against City and in the Community Shield against us.

If the players can't execute his playing tactics in the game then he should buy the ones who can.

We don't want to aspire to be Arsenal.

That's a very categorical statement, Mane Man. Maguire's limitations will be tested over the coming years and we'll see. All we can really say at this stage is that since Maguire's arrival we have both scored more goals from playing out from the back and conceded significantly fewer goals overall.

As you pointed out, Arsenal's tactics are different from Man Utd's. Your statement is a reminder that a) the fortunes of the team are about overall systems and dynamics - not just how good Maguire is - and b) there are different tactical approaches to particular footballing objectives. Last season Arsenal scored fewer and conceded more goals than us, but perhaps Arteta's superiority / Maguire's incompetence will shine through more this season.

Can you not read properly? Or don't want to read properly?

We conceded 33% less goals with Maguire and AWB in defence compared to the previous year, and 25% of the goals we scored came about from playing out from the back.

So that kind of suggests the coaching isn't quite as poor as you'd want to believe.

Going to put it out there. I think awbs defensive game is one of the most overrated thing currently in the league. Gets roasted and leaves space behind him quite frequently. Struggles with deep crosses too

Maguire isn’t a leader. I don’t care what some fans think on here. Vidic is a leader, evra is a leader. Maguire isn’t

You're just repeating yourself while ignoring the substantive points that were made last time you said the same thing. At least explain what you would expect from a leader, the evidence you perceive that he doesn't possess those qualities, and the reason the points put forward to the contrary don't apply. Otherwise you come across as someone with baseless views and unwilling to test them.

Ideally you’d want to combine him and taa, we’d get taa’s passing and forward play, but none of his dodgy defending weaknesses.

Maguire is really not a problem.

Easily good enough for the role of competitive EPL challenging squad. Some people will just not accept that defenders defend, or believe that unless there's an 'o' at the end of their name then they're no good.

Utter bollacks.

Granted united need a settled back 5, but that will not happen whilst the likes of coco, lindelof, bailly, rojo and/or fosu mensah are the only options.

And then, of course, there's an absence of a proper, regular, goalscoring striker.

Priorities.
