Saliba

What is up with him?. Hasn't featured at all so far this season.

Rumours are that he is being loaned out again. A bit strange since we forced him to miss the cup final for St Ettienne.

May be he is not ready for first team but he is only 19.

Arteta on Saliba's omission from last night's 18-man squad away to Liverpool:

"He had year last where Arsenal essentially loaned him to Saint-Etienne and that was a transition year for him,’ said Arteta.

‘For many reasons, that wasn’t the transition year that he needed because he had a lot of injuries, he had some personal issues and obviously with COVID and the French league getting cancelled, he didn’t have that year, so he needs that year of transition.

‘He needs that year of transition and we are trying to make the right decisions for him to make the best possible year of transition for him to have the player we want for our future.’

Well that isn’t very promising. Apparently Rennes want to take him on loan. Surely another PL club or Championship club would be better for his development. Someone like Brentford for example

Kinda defeats the purpose. Read above about his personal issues.

Can his personal issues only be resolved in France? What am I missing?

Your mother dies, staying close to family while you grieve seems sensible no?

I didn’t know his mother died. But even that being said, it’s probably easier to get from London to St Ettienne than it is from Rennes.

Not quite sure how you worked that one out.... especially during a pandemic where countries (France being a good example) are often having international travel restrictions placed on them.

Seems perfectly reasonable that if you mum dies you’d want to be in your home country. Especially now with quarantine and travel restrictions, he may end up being stuck here. Remember he’s only 19, losing a parent at that age will be horrible and unexpected

I wouldn’t mind him going for a loan move until January and then we evaluate if he can return for second part of the season hopefully he he gets more game in France that must be imperative.

Oh come on. Because so many footballers have been trapped in countries over Covid. A flight from London to Lyon is what, 3 hours?

If he wants to go back to France for family reasons then fair enough. But Rennes is at the opposite side of the country, if Covid will stop him hopping on a plane it’s also going to prevent him getting from one side of the country to another

Tbf if it were me and I was playing in France, but Man Utd came in for me, I'd probably be happier up there surrounded by people that (kind of) speak the same language I do, that I could talk to a bit more freely than I could do in a foreign language.

Can't imagine the likes of Guendouzi are too much 'hey, don't worry about me. I want to know how YOU'RE doing', you know?

....Still don’t quite get how you work out it’s easier to travel from London. Rennes has an airport btw.

And of course you’re only sending him on loan to clubs in and around the London area in this scenario..

There’s no shame in admitting you were wrong from time to time you know?
