VAR is perfect ...

... and that was the view of John Barnes on LFCTV, and I couldn’t agree more with him. The problem lies with the match officials. The vids have been there for all to see, and in this instance, the overwhelming majority of post reflect the view that Pickford should have been sanctioned for the tackle on VvD, and that Sadio was not offside in relation to Jordan’s goal.

Where do we go from here?

Some of the comments made on this site In relation to Pickford have been nothing short of disgraceful. He’s been on a steep downwards turn for the past twelve months, culminating on clattering Virgil in the way that he did, robbing us of out mainstay for probable the rest of the season.

But, where do we go from here?

Apparently there are ‘Monday Reviews’ (?) of such decisions, taken by top and ex-match officials. What is their purpose? It seems that the primary, if not sole objective of such a committee is an evaluation of the match officials at specific games, and little, if anything else. My view is that Jordan’s goal was 100% legit, and that we should have left Goodison with three points instead of one.

In order to restore the legitimacy, the credibility of VAR, this same committee should be given some teeth. In addition to the prospect of retrospective punishment or reduction of the same, should they not be given the power to award or deduct points? It’s a big step, I accept, but the alternative is this constant frustrating hand-wringing, teeth-knashing, apologies all round, nothing really being done, and VAR losing even more support as it heads down the tubes.

It would be too late for our club at present, but under that option, the committee could award the offended club two points which I say we would have fully deserved.

The match officials? With the benefit of hindsight it’s easy to be critical of them. Coote, it is claimed has a bit of history with our club. If that was the case why was he sitting in the VAR booth? Oliver, for me, one of the best refs I’ve seen in a long time let himself down. If in these PL games the match officials can look at the pitch side monitor any time he or she fancies, why didn’t he?

Here is a little tip. If you are going to accuse others of not having a good grip on the English language then it is a good idea to ensure you are able to use it yourself so that you don't look even more foolish. I have no idea what Whelsh is supposed to mean and I used to play with Plasticine - not Plastecine.
