Aroundabout 12 months ago, Spurs

were getting to the back end of their horror month of October, 2019. All this had come off the back of getting knocked out of the League Cup in the September by Colchester. Who remembers the humiliation at Brighton 3-0, the record home defeat in European Competition by Bayern 7-2? It was a horrible time to be a Spurs supporter.

Plunging down the table at an alarming rate, couldn`t buy an away win for love or money, nearly 20 points of the top of table, 10 points of top four, it was a club in turmoil sinking fast. Fans were seeing a club going only one way, and there was no sign of anything good happening. Ageing players, players stropping about for a move. Changes had to be made.

Then our Chairman stepped in, made the changes, splashed a bit of money out, and hey presto, things are 100 per cent looking better, who would have thought, it could be turned around so quickly.

Fast forward 12 months, one of the world`s best ever managers at the helm, shrewd player recruitment, away wins coming along every few days, competitive in every competition. a couple of points of the top of the table, looking forward rather than backwards. A record win over United on their own ground, knocking Chelsea out of the Carabou Cup, progressing nicely on the European front. Boy oh boy does it feel good right now, all the doom and gloom of 12 months ago dispelled.

October 2020 could not be any different to October 2019, other than the behind closed doors malarky. A club on the up, players enjoying themselves again. The two best front men in the Prem, doing the business, clean sheets starting the mount up, all players getting game time, and mostly doing a decent job. Oh and most importantly the injury curse of others years, seems to be keeping away thus far, makes a big, big different when you don`t get injuries to all your key players.

Spurs as it stands are fast becoming the envy of the division, able to field different teams in different competitions, without hardly a drop in standard, it is what the club have been striving to do for years, being able to compete on more than one front. How good is that.

Remember all too well. I was in hospital, following a heart attack, awaiting a heart bypass, with a Gooner in a bed opposite.

The Colchester night was a particular low point. And throwing away a 2-0 lead against Olympiacos in the opening CL group game.was the night before my opp.

Yeah, that time did test my loyalty towards Spurs.

Hope you are better now mate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah ok now, although Spurs still test my stress levels every time they play. Still, you choose your team and have to stick with them for life unfortunately.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I know. I have to be careful with stress levels too, and if you've noticed after couple of games, I stopped coming on here.
That was to make sure my stress levels are not going through the roof.
I had a mini-stroke a while ago, after coming back from Australia and when I was jobless for a bit, stress got on top of me, and bang! got TIA.

Touch wood, all good now but have to monitor my stress levels.
Luckily these have dropped recently

not sure we are the envy of the division, sandy... we are not even top of the league...

however, i would say that in terms of squad depth and options we are there or there abouts with the best in the league.... would say that Liverpool and city still have a stronger first 11, but i think squad depth we really have caught up this window. shrewed recruitment.

just the very fact that we now have a viable striking alternative is excellent.

the fact that on Monday there was no space for Alli Bergwijn Sanchez even on the bench, means that we have good options.

skipp out on loan hopefully improving - i think he will come back better than winks.. and sessegnon hopefully kicking on, then we have young jack Clarke, and i haven't even mentioned Tanganga and Rodon yet, two more excellent prospects...

really strong squad technically, mentality still needs some work, but i think we can have a good season

The envy of the division was a bit tongue in cheek mate.

The squad is so good now, as you point out players that cannot even get on the bench.

Guys, thanks for all the comments. Trust me, it was definitely not a bid for some sympathy.

Life kicks you down sometimes, and that period in particular, was hard for me. No doubt other on here all have "their times" they relate to.

That said, I am certainly more than upbeat with our team at present. Levy has his critics ( sometimes quite rightly ) but he has come through for the club and us this season,

Irrespective of the things that knock us down, our support for our team, and their next result never goes away.

For me, this year has been a turning point. Yes, it was a travesty that the team under Poch didn't win anything. The CL final defeat was, and always will be a particular low point. But I personally feel this time around, with Jose in charge, we may, just may correct that.

Right, that's enough of the sensible posts, my usual posts will now resume.

On the subject of being optimistic about Spurs, although I don’t quite have the optimism of Sandy (who does?!), it’s worth noting that currently:

Best goal difference in the league.
Most goals scored in the league.
Only team in the league unbeaten since opening day.
Top scorer in the league (Son).
Top assister in the league (Kane).
Top passer in the league (Hojbjerg).
Two points off top place.

We’re really quite good at the moment. It’s a long season and very early days but anyone moaning or complaining about our team currently needs to have a good look at themselves.

Cheers Steve glad you recovering mate.

There has definitely been a big improvement and I have laid off Mourinho (for now). Really hope he succeeds

Good set of stats that mate.

Spurs are absolutely going in the right direction now, you would have to be stupid to think they are not.

Yeah I’ve got to admit I was surprised as just how many of those stats we are top of. And those kind of stats are often a good indicator of trends in terms of where a team is heading.

Mourinho have come up with a tactic which suits the team better. Kane dropping deep and Son making the runs behind the opponent defence. You play a lot narrower with the width coming from the fullbacks.
