Similarities to where Liverpool were...

Before they fixed their defence. They were a good team under Rodgers and first 2 years under Klopp but their defence held them back. That's where I see this Utd team. Lots to be excited about and definite progress being made but we still let too many goals in.

People starting to get a bit too excited and talking of title challenges this season for us and I think it's premature. I don't think we will be that close come May. I think we will finish top 4 again but still a fair way behind Liverpool come the end.

"I don't even think your defenders are particularly bad but Liverpool's are another level."

Their fullbacks are complemented by a midfield set up expressly to give them freedom as well, so the job they do is much more effective.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is true but even with expressive freedom would any other fullback in the PL get close to their numbers? Reece James possibly but beyond that i'm struggling.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

FB's are defenders. Why are they being rated on their assists?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because the modern game requires attacking output from fullback's, especially in the form of width as more and more LW/RW has effectively become LF/RF. This "doesn't matter if they can't control a ball if the defend allright" is so unbelievably dinosaur like.

All the best teams have fullback's that contribute heavily in attacking play and one's that don't are held back massively.

VVD is head and shoulders above our CB's but after that, there isn't much in the collective sets of defenders.

Id also put DDG on a par with Allison

Present day DDG isn't even the best keeper at United let alone on par with Alisson.

He lost his national team place to Kepa fgs...

He’s not as good as Allison, but he’s still the best keeper at United and hasn’t lost his place to Kepa for Spain.

He did for a while (when the guy filling in for Enrique was incharge) but now Unai Simon is ahead of both.

They rotated the keepers for some games. De Gea will be back in goal for the Euros as he’s Enrique’s preferred keeper.

Maybe I'm biased but I'd still take a CB pairing of Gomez and Matip over any at United right now, and Robertson is in my opinion the best all round/most balanced fullback currently in world football.

De gea has played well in his recent international appearances.

From what Enrique has said Dave is still his number 1 going forward

Problem with Gomez and Matip is that they are always injured, so it’s difficult to know what their real level is. I’m surprised Liverpool didn’t sign another cb in the summer. A partner for VVD seemed like the most obvious weakness in the starting eleven.
