Wolves v Baggies match preview

Date: Saturday 16th January
Kick off: 12.30
Venue: Molineux

So finally we arrive at the last game of the 21-day, 6 match sequence and what better way to do it than with a Black Country Derby.
Widely regarded as the fiercest rivalry in English football and one of the longest standing derbies in the world. The two sides met for the first time on January 2nd 1886 in an FA Cup game which was won 3-1 by West Brom.

Despite the fact that the two sides have contested 160 matches they have only met 4 times in the Premier League. The first game ended in a 1-1 draw, the second game went to Wolves with a 3-1 score line, Albion taking the points and the bragging rights for the other two.
The last time the two sides met was at Molineux on February 12th 2012 when the baggies won 5-1, a score line that is unlikely to be repeated under the present circumstances.

Wolves currently sit in 14th place in the table with 22 points whilst West Brom occupy 19th place with 8 points and an unbelievable goal difference of -28.

Albion have the luxury of playing 1 game per week in the run up to this fixture with their game against Arsenal on 2nd Jan followed by a cup game against Blackpool on the 9th.
Wolves’ game against Brighton on the 2nd was followed by a cup game against Crystal Palace on the 8th and then a league game against Everton on the 12th, once again, leaving little time to prepare for this game.

Despite the fact that both clubs have Chinese owners there has been a marked difference in recruiting policy. In their current first team squads, Wolves have 8 players under the age of 23, Albion have 5. Wolves have 1 outfield player over the age of 30, Albion have 7.

West Brom sacked their manager, Slaven Bilic a month ago, appointing boyhood Wolves fan, Sam Allardyce in his place.
Chinese owner Guochuan Lai announced in November 2020 that he was willing to sell the club but in the present climate and with their current league position, it is unlikely that any fresh faces will be moving into the boardroom at the Hawthorns any time soon.

The game will be shown live on BT Sport

There are loads of people that enjoy watching Wolves play. I do and most people I know do, including supporters of other teams who I regularly hear raving about the likes of Traore, Podence and Neto. And most tv pundits also talk positively about how Wolves play

I would agree that after reading social media you could get a different impression though

you want to get out more.
i live in an area where there are lots of supporters of other clubs and all say what a poor watch they find wolves now.

Spangles lives in an echo chamber. People around him only ever have the same opinions as him. That's why he is always so shocked when he reads different opinions elsewhere.

Spangles is full of shat and by some stroke of luck he and the people he knows always manage to miss the first half of matches where our tactic is to quite literally destroy any tempo to a feckin football match

Aww poor cinci and Tammy, I really rock their cradle by pointing out that not everybody in the world watches football to moan and pick faults

I don’t get paid to watch football and there’s no law that says I have to. I watch it for one reason only, because I enjoy it. And fortunately I have lots of friends of a similar disposition. Just as Tammy and cinci are bosom buddies who like to wallow in each other’s negativity and have formed their own little echo chamber on ja606. Sweet

Spangles is quite balanced and moderate, and also quite knowledgable about the game. We should be glad to have him contributing to our threads.

No idea who "Tammy" is, but I do know whose opinions I take more seriously. Yes, we can have banter, but we can reflect more sensibly at leisure.

Ah - I see the reference. Hadn't read back through the thread. Don't see the point of falling out within ourselves. We're all disappointed when a result goes wrong, however unfortunate.
