Against most of the dross England actually have to face in qualifiers and group stages we should really be building the side around the creativity of Foden and Grealish in midfield imo. With Kane and Sterling certainties for 2 of the attacking roles (deopending on formation).

Mount if he continues his progression could come in for one of Foden or Grealish as an extra CM against better sides.

Henderson the midfielder to start every game.

Southgate will never start with only 1 DM though, even against cannon fodder it will be Hendo and Rice/Dier/Winks.

hmm maybe but that is late 2022. Into his 30s now and still gets the odd injuries. Might be sensible at 32 to stick to playing high level PL football than going to San Marino and Andorra

Can't see Henderson passing up on a world cup with the players that are coming through.

If some of them are world class then someone like Rashford must be universe class, and he isn't even world class himself.

Think Henderson especially at this stage of his career would relish the chance to be the experienced leader of a midfield in the WC with the promising youngsters around him.

Central midfield is a massive problem for England and Southgate either needs to hope that players like Mount and Rice will go into the tournament in form, or find another way of playing.

There isn't a single central midfield player that is good enough to play through imo, although granted that Foden will probably play a bit deeper for England than he does for City.
