Most disappointing signing of the season

I’m not gonna say flop but it’s too early to label any player a flop in their first season.

5 stars

Donny Van de Beek

Many will argue it’s because he hasn’t played enough or gotten a proper run to show what he can do but he’s a 40 million pound player who hasn’t made enough of an impression yet. When he has played he often takes the safety first option. I hope he doesn’t leave in the summer and would like to see him play more but he needs to make more of his opportunities too.

4 stars

Thiago Alcantara

Top player with a great career behind him. Many thought he was a player that would take Liverpool to any higher level and in his first few appearances it looked like that could actually be the case. Since returning from injury though he hasn’t had the impression that would be expected. Their struggles certainly aren’t down to him but he’s starting to look a bit like Veron. A top player who just doesn’t fit.

3 stars

Timo Werner

In truth you could put all three of Chelsea’s attacking signings into this but Werner has had the most game time. Havertz is still a kid and Ziyech has had his injuries. Werner came with a massive reputation and while he’s looked better under Tuchel he’ll be disappointed with his season so far. Missed some absolute sitters too. Interestingly he’s win the most penalties in the league though. No doubt he’s scoring tomorrow now.

2

Willian

Makes it ahead of Bale as he’s a permanent signing and at least Bale has had the odd moment. Yes Willian was a free transfer but also on huge wages. Chelsea weren’t willing to give him a long term deal so why would Arsenal? Good player in his day but often well he only stood out when things were going bad for Chelsea. He also plays in a position where they have plenty of options. He’s been abysmal and they’ll struggle to get him off the books. Bit of an Alexis Sanchez for United style signing in many ways.

1 Other (please specify)

Bale? Ziyech or Havertz? Ake? Fabio Silva? Anyone else?

VC wouldn’t answer a question I put forward. His/her angry internet persona really is tiresome. Imagine if they were actually like that in real life and not just putting it on.

That is your opinion which should, for consistency, then extend to the post in which that question was being referenced. However you actually acknowledged and offered a defence of yourself. (Despite a question not being asked.)

Ergo in reference to the question asked in the first instance you didn’t ignore it, you actually avoided any attempt at answering it.

Is this dodging/bottling persona an extension to the angry internet person, or is it a real manifestation of yourself?

The angry and recently dodging persona is now also taking on one of insecurity of seeking to rely on others.

Let’s see how many more BS traits you can rack up. The more of these you exhibit it is more likely you’re just putting them on.

No chance someone who is actually this disturbed would have free access to the internet.

For me it has to be the Chelsea boys Havertz and Werner. Chelsea are progressing despite of them.

5 premier league goals having started most games is appalling and while some may say new leage new country etc, the likes of Watkins and Bamford, coming up from Championship level have scored plenty more in weaker teams. Werner is also notable for missing some absolute sitters.

Harvetz for £55m has done nothing of note.

Thiago is more funny than anything else as Liverpool fans bleated about how much he was missed during their injury crisis, despite him having barely played for them, and now he's fit and playing and he's massively underwhelming. But for £20m, its not a shocker of a transfer and he's yet to really play in a full strength LFC.

Doherty at Spurs has disappointed most Spurs fans but he didnt come with a massive fee or reputation, so its all relative really. Squad player of squad player level.
