Reading this board last night, one would assume that United had just been relegated from the Premier League. Toys flew out of the pram and names were thrown around, declared not good enough such was the fury. Despite the fact that several players (who have been outstanding for us this season) underperformed last night, Ole took the blunt of the blame. You know what? That's fair too. Ole is the manager and it's his responsibility to win us games, so yes, it's right he's been criticized. Or is it?
I think most users on this board need a reality check. Ole is in his second year, not fifth. We aren't title contenders yet. We aren't a great team yet. Ole's project is just starting. Success isn't instant. Fergie is gone. Those days are gone. It was always just a dream to win the title this season and even though I felt it was possible (more on that in another article) it has been taken away from us for various reasons. So when I see people wishing terrible things on the manager and players, I have to disagree entirely.
It would be fair to slate the team and manager if we had a side that should be winning everything, but right now we don't and we have no right to just say 'We're Man United' and assume that gives us some kind of right to win titles and cups. This squad is far from complete and Ole needs more time to get his players through the door so we can step up to that level. Yet, despite all of that, we are second in the league and into the latter stages of the cups.
I think we all agreed that this season it was completely about consolidating our position in the top 4 and potentially winning a trophy and you know what? We are on track to do that! We have several reasons to be positive with Ole and the team at this moment in time. Unbeatable away from home, one of the highest scorers in the league and one of the best teams in the country; but according to some on here it's not good enough and the manager should be hung from his neck atop the tower of Strangeways for all to see.
Get behind Ole, he's ahead of where other 'elite' managers were in their second full season and if we carry on progressing like this under him then we will win the title. It is unfair to criticize him based on how we've done this season as he has performed above expectation.

It is all about a top 4 finish with this squad and the fact Ole made us believe we could win it shows how far ahead he is in terms of development. There are things beyong OGS' control that have resulted in us falling behind, not things he has done.
