Mellon's Out

All but confirmed now. All in all, not too fussed with this news. The team has been absolutely dire to watch all season and have been kept away from the relegation battle by one of the best goalkeepers in Scotland.
Mellon's had a insistence on playing players that aren't performing, shoe-horning in players where they don't fit and his favoured system is playing three centre-forwards... and no creative midfielders. Didn't learn or improve through the season and even gave away our most creative midfielder to some lower league club.
On a more positive note his signings have been decent. Unfortunately they've come at the cost of blooding youngsters, with hardly any of them getting a decent run-out this season.
But ultimately, one good performance in the cup against an Aberdeen team that cared less than Boris Johnson cares about his children. That's pretty much his legacy.

Our league performance has some truly depressing stats:
Failed to score on 16 occasions.
Scored 32 goals. This is the worst performance in Dundee United's history, when playing more than 30 games. It matches the goal tally from Gretna's ill-fated foray into the top flight.
Failed to win the in the final 4 games of the season. A single victory would have earned the club an extra £125,000 in prize money.

But...
13 clean sheets. Showing exactly why we stayed up.

All a bit meh about this as I was about Neilson leaving as both had the team playing really poor to watch football. All in all I would have preferred him to stay on with a proper transfer window to see how he shaped the team and if the style improved.
Can just hope we have a target in mind and he is in place soon so we don't get the same situation of a manager comming in halfway through the transfer window.

Not sure how I feel about this. It’s a shame for the guy that he didn’t get a shot at managing the team in more normal circumstances. I know the football was hard work to watch, but there’s every chance that a crowd might have kicked them on a bit (although there’s as much chance that the normal boo boys in there would have just heaped pressure on the players).

Kept us safe with effectively the same squad that was in the Championship (bar a couple of tweaks here and there). It was good seeing the younger lads getting a run out for the last couple of matches, things look quite positive in terms of them breaking into the first team properly next season (which is the “model” the club is working on).

The biggest thing for me is going to be getting someone in quickly - give them time to look at what’s happening, rather than the situation he found himself in because Hearts had spat the dummy, and Utd seemed to take forever to get his appointment over the line. No faffing about, please.

I'm like everyone else in that I can't decide how I feel about it either. I'd rather not have the turmoil and I feel like Mellon never really got the chance to build his own team, but at the same time I've not enjoyed watching United this season and I really hate his negative tactics.

I can't see it being McInnes due to his poor record at developing youth players. I feel like it'll be Hughes but we'll wait and see - Mellon wasn't on anyone's radar prior to being appointed so it might be another left-field appointment.

Youth coach Tam Courts is the name being put forward by the press as the favourite. I'm doing my best The Thick Of It quote " I literally don't know who this is".

That was the strong rumour last night. With Ashgar's young lad as his assistant.

It horrifies me.

As does most of the names on the list to be fair.
