What is La Liga?

I'm seriously confused.

Barcelona were allowed to sign a striker under some sort of emergency clause outside of the transfer window (Martin Braithwaite) yet Leganes were not allowed to sign a replacement even though they could get relegated.

Only recently have they started to address the disparity in television rights between clubs.

Messi is now leaving because La Liga has to ultimately agree to his salary/contract with Barca. Which apparently they have declined to agree to (but could still be agreed due to how much of a crowd puller to the league Messi is).

La Liga seems more like MLS than a normal league and massively favourable to the big two clubs in Spain.

This is not to even mention some of the deals done before allowing Real & Barca to redevelop their stadiums and training grounds.

No wonder the league is a mess.

How does this…“ Messi is now leaving because La Liga has to ultimately agree to his salary/contract with Barca”

Lead you to this conclusion, “La Liga seems more like MLS than a normal league and massively favourable to the big two clubs in Spain”

Perhaps the immediate sentence of comparing La Liga to MLS was rash and misplaced. What I was inferring to was that La Liga seems to have certain rules and attributes that are different to "traditional" or dare I say the British ways to football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Football was already practiced more than 2300 years ago in the city of Lin Zi as a military sport. As usual the Brits stole it and claimed it their own.

La liga is an absolute mess

La Liga is great technical football mixed with pussiness (i.e. the players are poosy), playacting, dark arts, commentary that sounds like someone's gargling etc.

I sort of see where you got the MLS comparison from OP. Both of the league dictates top down on how things are run.

However beyond that, MLS won't let any club fail or in anyway, become financially irresponsible. Fees to build out a franchise extremely high and they do heavy due diligence on the market before approving the formation of a club. Also, MLS is big on parity so they don't have a Real Madrid/Barca running the show there. Seattle and LA Galaxy were the closest thing to it but the inclusion of Atlanta and all the Canadian teams kind of leveled off the playing field.

That's a good breakdown cheers.

Was a bad comparison in hindsight to MLS.

La Liga is a shambles is my opinion. Ronaldo leaving and of Messi does will damage it massively.

MLS in 20 years time may actually be THE go to league. It seems like it is going from strength to strength.

Yeah, they're screwed. La Liga imposing a salary cap will help control the spending which will set them back years if not decades compared to the EPL/BuLi. They need Tebas to intervene or a bailout of some sort to get out of the mess they're currently in, of which, I'm not a big proponent of.

Here in the States, one of the college conferences is going through this exact scenario where the big teams are kicking up a fuss and the remaining teams are going to lose out on significant revenue due to that. It's ugly and been compared to the attempted ESL situation a few months back.
