Jury Duty

With some passing talk on here today about AWB and Mendy's brush with the law I was wondering if anyone on here has ever been called up for jury duty?

Before last month I didn't know anyone who'd been but, in the last month several of my work colleagues have been summoned and I will be going to administer justice myself in a few months.

For the people that have been was it an interesting experience or was it just boring. I'm quite looking forward to going but I'm sure not everyone would be.

I got summonsed for jury duty week commencing 20/09 but I have a wedding to go to so I've deferred it until February next year.

It really depends what case you get. I served on 2 cases. One was a drug dealer the other was 2 bouncers battering some lads outside a bar. The drug dealer one was pretty boring, the one with the bouncers was pretty interesting.

I nearly ended up on this case:

I went into court and saw the girls and heard the outline of the case, but wasn't one of the sleceted jurors in the end. I was half glad and half gutted. It would have been interesting, but the case lasted a long time and it'd have been pretty shocking hearing how they tortured and killed a vulnerable person.

I don't mind going and, as I won't be losing out financially as I'll still get paid by work, I don't mind going. I just found it strange how loads of people I know suddenly got summoned. I suppose there's a backlog with cases with Covid.

I can't imagine it'll be a very juicy case as nothing too major usually happens around here but you never know.

You could get a case from somewhere else rather than local. They sometimes move cases out of the area where it was committed for safety and fair trial reasons.

I was on Jury Duty early this year, to be honest, I really enjoyed it. Although, I was in an Odeon Luxe cinema rather than the court room.

The only downside is finding out that a lot of people on the Jury are dimwits.

That's a possibility too isn't it.

I suppose the issue we have here is that it's not very densely populated so, even though the court I'm attending is 40 miles away, I could know the person.

In which case you can't be part of the trial. They always ask you if you know anyone involved. I had a bit of a funny one in the middle of the drugs trial I was in the jury for. The lad who had been busted with a sports bag full of weed said that a drug dealer had passed him the bag a few minutes before he was busted with it. He gave the name of this supposed dealer and it was the same name of a lad that I know who is a dealer! Just a coincidence and the lad was lying anyway, but stopped me in my tracks for a minute.

I have never been selected to do Jury duty, I know many people who have, but never myself. As a self employed person (never had a job) I was always told that it wouldn't be a good thing... but I have always loved to have a go.

Yes. That's a possibility. It is what it is. It's a new experience though so will treat it as that.

RB&W - my Mum is fuming. She's 65 and never been summoned. She loves all the courtroom dramas on TV and fancies a go herself!
