Just back. NC and VA relatively safe. A lot of vagrants in Charlotte but never felt unsafe. Took my satnav which is essential when you go.

It’s ancient and slow to boot - the Scott Brown of satnavs - but Hertz wanted $170 to hire one for 2 weeks which wasn’t happening.

Could you not just have used the maps on your phone?

We use our phone , no paid plan, just wifi which freely available pretty much everywhere...except the glades

We were going places there was no signal and with trespass laws over there you do not want to be going up to somebody's door to ask far less discover what lurks behind it. Houses still awash with Trump posters.

Fook knows. We did use google maps when I doubt but rule #1 keep her happy. It was bad enough I forgot my license so she had to do all the driving which she hates and is scheite at until mine got couriered over.

It had been 7 or 8 years since my last trip over there. It never struck me much before but did this time - the complete over-provision of clean and well maintained toilet facilities. Almost every shop of any size has them, in malls they are every 50 yards or so and wee towns have plenty open almost around the clock. No vandalism, grafitti, stolen bog rolls, pash on seats, shat everywhere - that is if you can find one in the UK these days. WTF is wrong with this country?
