Matar Sarr

Anyone here follow Ligue 1 at all? I noticed this weekend that Metz were in the relegation zone and have only one league win out of ten this season which doesn’t bode that well lol. Anyway wanted to know how our new midfield signing was getting along. Hopefully he’s outperforming the rest of the team.

I have to agree here..Been underwhelmed by Royal so far. Really wanted someone with a little more attacking intent and some assurance on the ball but he has been looking a little shaky in possession and don't think I have seen him beat a man yet and get a decent cross in.
There was an instance yesterday when the ball was falling over his head and he literally just panicked and hoofed it into the stand with no one close by.

Hoping he can improve as time goes by but early signs not encouraging for me anyway..

Maybe that attacking intent will come with time. I read a few profiles about him when he signed for us and almost all of them spoke of him as one of La Liga’s best attacking full backs so let’s see. His lack of pace worries me though and it’s possible that might hinder his impact higher up the pitch in the PL.

Chris

I’m not really as fond of Emerson as some have been and thought he was poor at the weekend but he was equally very good second half vs Arsenal and Aston Villa. I like him, I do think he is a massive step up on Doherty and a better fit than Tanganga - however I doubt he’ll have as good a season as Aurier did last year

I'm not even a big fan either - would much rather have a fullback who is excellent going forward and sub par defensively than the one like Emerson who is excellent defensively and sub par going forward.

But in terms of his performances so far this season he's definitely been ~good~ - classic 7/10 stuff.

In the few games he has played, he has had numerous occasions when he could have attacked their left back and showcase his skills .but he has just looked unsure how to go about it or been dispossessed.
As Brazils choice right back, you expect him to be better but time will tell.

My only issue with Emerson is he really isn't fast enough. Was expecting more pace. But if he learns to cross im fine with that. He has good stamina and string in the tackle and aerially.

When you are looking for validation for your own opinion, one the last pundits I would look to is Kieran Dyer, of all people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair he got his analysis pretty spot on there. I’m more weirded out by the people in the thread claiming Doherty was going to be an excellent signing. Of all the right backs we could have gone for that summer, he should have been absolutely no where the list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And look who was in that thread singing about how good Doherty is…. Yep, amongst others, Christopher, who is doing the same on this one. Some people just can’t deal with the truth. When it comes to spurs signings, the newer they are, the more amazing we’re told they’ll be. It’s just not true. My summary of Royal is just that. A brief summary of a player I’ve not seen pull up any trees that I don’t think is an upgrade on Aurier and is miles off Trippier and Walker. Yet because he’s new I’m not allowed to have that opinion. He might get better, who knows?! But bookmark this thread as, like the Doherty one, history might prove me right.

We’ll see. I hope I’m wrong.

What I've seen of Emerson Royal so far is not very exciting.
I agree that he is not an improvement on Aurier, except that he is not inclined to give away Fks and Penalties.
Romero does not impress either.
Dier has improved a lot. And Reguilon is a real success story, but has an Achilles heel...his ability to defend.

All in all I expect us to leak goals against the better sides...our GD BTW is -3, the worst in the top ten of the Prem.

For a large part of his Spurs career Aurier was awful going forward and his crossing at times was Eric Dier.

Just read some of the comments regarding Emerson Royal

The fella has come back from his loan spell at Betis, started to try and settle at Barca again, before being shipped to Tottenham - and our 'fans' expect him to be setting the Premier League on fire and playing like peak Cafu

New country, new league, new team mates / system, international breaks etc...

Let the guy settle before judging him
