I was at our last Cup win and as amazing as it was why do we have a lack of logic when it comes to cups.
If we have the 6th best squad (debatable) in the league then technically we are 6th seeds going into any domestic cups.
This means a par performance would be a quarter-final. Anything above this is over-performing.
The irony for those that want silverware is that the Cup where we are one of the top seeds if not the top seed (UECL) they don't want to take it seriously.
I think a bias towards domestic cups needs to be revised..at least for this season. This doesn't mean play your strongest team in the group stages but it shouldn't mean disrespecting it by playing majority of kids. We don't have that luxury in our cabinet.
Should we win a Cup?

Conference league is the only difference maker - a competition which we really should be winning if we tried
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup, we shouldn't let press or other clubs belittle the comp. They actually don't want us to win it because it still represents a cup and the narrative would have to stop.
Europe had 3 trophies before the champs league shake up so only people that don't understand this belittle UECL. There will still be big teams in the Final and the winning fans will celebrate.
We now fool ourselves into thinking Europa League and UECL don't count. Tell that to Sevilla. Who's fans are happier with their trophy cabinet....Spurs or Sevilla?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Deep down if we were not in either cup we would be turning our noses up at both comps. Glad our participation has humbled us fans.

When people talk about how money has ruined football and essentially killed any real competition by putting all the power and resources in the hands of a few teams, they usually make that argument on the basis of the PL. But it’s also killed the cups as well. Prior to the PL one of the excitements of the cups was the unpredictability of it all, anyone could win, and if not anyone then a large array of teams. For the past 30 or so years however they have just been the preserve of five teams. Yes there have been a couple of anomalies here and there like Birmingham, Wigan, Swansea but they really are true anomalies and stick out like a sore thumb in the way they wouldn’t have done before. Spurs should probably have a better cup record, but that requires again the owners providing the manager with the right tools, and to be regular cup winners we need above all else a really deep squad, which we’ve never really had during ENIC’s tenure.
It’s all very well and good saying Spurs need to be winking more cups but how exactly are they supposed to do that when teams like City and Chelsea essentially have two squads both of which are better than our own. A lot of stars need to align for any team outside the dominant five to win a domestic trophy, and they only ever align every so often.

I take your point ABC, but I think the cups are more open than that.
In the last 30 years you refer to, Leicester have been in 3 League Cup Finals and won 2 of them (lost the other one to Spurs!), plus one FA Cup Final which we won (this year v Chelsea), so smaller clubs can win trophies.

I don’t think it’s made of tin and it is a trophy rather than a pot.
It is very much our current level, and I want us to go and win it

This should be the mindset. Go and win it. Given the level of competition it will be a failure not to.
We have a great European history and have won the third tier European trophy before and been glad
However pissssy this cup is perceived as, its just embarrassing if we fail to at least make the final. We cant bleat its beneath us and then not even win it.

Leicester won their two league cups in the 90s when the full force of the PL hadn’t totally taken affect. If you look at the winners of both domestic cup competitions prior to 92-93 and then beyond, there is definitely a closing up of shop and far less diversity among the winners. Take the FA Cup for example. In the 28 years prior to the PL you had 16 or 17 different winners. In the 28 years of the PL you’ve had 8 different winners, with the majority of the finals being contested by the big five. You’ve also had an incredible amount of doubles, whereas before the Prem there were like three doubles for 90 or so years. Money has not only made the top of the PL a pretty closed shop, but cut off the cups to mid sized and other smaller teams too.

On average, City have won 2 out of the 3 available domestic trophies for the last 4 years.

ABC - I take your point, but being the pedant I am I should point out that our last League Cup win was in 2000.
The previous one was 1997.

Fair enough but both of those weren’t too far removed from the inception of the PL. So this century for example, all but three of the FA Cups have been hoovered up by the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea and all but five of the league cups. That’s an unparalleled and unprecedented level of dominance.
