Reinforces and re-emphasises my belief (briefly mentioned last week) that McNeil would be an astute mid-season recruit.

Rotating in-sync and inflicting damage in the half-spaces between the lines and wide with (the real number 10 by definition) Callum Hudson-Odoi, just like they did to great effect at international level -

Should absolutely be all over this, as the short and long-term Chilwell competition.
Starting bid in the region of £15m. Cap at £30m (if it gets to that stage). Coax him into forcing the move.

Missing a trick if we elect to dip into the market & not make a move for a cost-effective solution + another James (Dwight James McNeil) in addition to our collection of James': Harvey James Vale, Callum James Hudson-Odoi, Reece James...A fit!

Don't want to see another inconducive ill-assorted signing, got to get this position right...It's crucial.
Nothing more needs to be said, Chelsea

Would much rather us look at a player like this than a Digne or someone else who would provide short term cover and ultimately go on loan

not hearing 2 much in the way of incomings at the moment

Tricky sell to a player knowing he's coming in as a backup to a player who's still young, possibly easier if the player in question plays (and lives) in Burnley but still

I'd just recall Emerson.

Not at all.
Chilwell is out for the season, path into first 11 is clear for the immediate future. May even establish himself to keep Chilwell out of the team, whenever he's fit to play.
Also McNeil wouldn't think twice about having a choice of staying at Burnley and battling relegation or competiting for trophies at the top.
Easy sell.

The return of Emerson is the tricky one, with that sell-on clause + will undoubtedly fracture the relations between ourselves and Lyon, which wouldn't be beneficial in the long-run.
Would Emerson even want to return, after grown accustomed to life in France at Lyon?

If McNeil has any England ambitions (which I'm sure he does), move to top (if the opportunity presents itself) is a no-brainer.
Let's face it there wont be much competition for the left-wingback spot with Chilwell injured and Shaw out of form.

What do you think on recalling Maatsen or going for Jay Dasilva?
