SFWA & Christie windfall

CRAIG Gordon, the Hearts and Scotland goalkeeper, has become the first man ever to be named Scottish Football Writers’ Association (SFWA) Player of the Year for a third time.

Gordon has beaten off stiff competition from Cameron Carter-Vickers and Callum McGregor of Celtic and James Tavernier of Rangers to land the coveted award.

The 40-year-old has been superb as cinch Championship champions Hearts have finished third in the Premiership and reached the Scottish Cup final in the 2021/22 campaign.

The 66-times capped internationalist also helped Scotland finish second in their Qatar 2022 qualifying group and secure a Path A play-off semi-final spot.

Rangers legends John Greig (1966 and 1976), Sandy Jardine (1975 and 1986), Brian Laudrup (1995 and 1997) and Barry Ferguson (2000 and 2003) and Celtic greats Henrik Larsson (1999 and 2001) and Leigh Griffiths (2013 and 2016) all won the SFWA award twice

However, Gordon, who won in 2006 during his first spell at Hearts and in 2015 after his debut season at Celtic, is the only player to be honoured by the nation’s scribes on three occasions

I have always liked Lundstram though I know one or two who struggled with him at first.

He was a bit unlucky in that earlier in the season he lost his man a couple of times in situations which lead to goals plus he rashly got sent off in Europe.

He wasnt actually playing that badly at the time.

I was one of many who did lose a bit of patience with him being a bit part player on such a high wage though and it did seem the best for all parties if he moved on in Jan.

Thank fook he never left though!

He has got the bit between his teeth, his fitness has improved, he has sharpened up his game and really started to play to his strengths.

Technically he is very good with both feet, his tackling it excellent and what an engine he has.

Deffo vice captain material next season if/when Goldson exits.

Team of the season from a neutral i.e not a biased fan of one of the old firm so a much more honest and correct team with no petty emissions:

C.Gordon

S. Kingsley
J. Souttar
S. Rooney
J.Marshall

A. Halliday
L.Ferguson
J. Hungbo

M. Boyle
B.Anderson
R. Charles-Cook
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Watching Lewis Ferguson play football makes me want to cry.

I have no idea if he has any actual ability because all he ever does against Rangers is spend 90 minutes trying to manufacture fouls and falling over.

He is a complete embarrassment to the game.

I think he will end up with us and will be the energy midfielder the legs in the cm. I think it seems he is auditioning for the role every time he plays against us.
