Top Gun : Maverick

Just saw it, 10/10. I heartily recommend, especially if you loved the first one and let’s be honest, it’s a goddamn masterpiece so of course you did.

You’ll never guess who the ‘bad guys’ are this time 😉

I seem to be in a minority of one.
I thought the first was rubbish, so won't be watching the second.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve never even watched the first and have zero intention of ever watching it let alone part 2.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Never watched it, and doubt I ever will. The trailer alone with that unescapable sickly-sweet song, was vomit-inducing.

And if anyone wants to tell me it wasn't just another exercise in glorifying the U.S. military, the can save their breath because I won't believe them.

Tbh it very much was. In the 80s they actually had Navy recruitment desks outside cinemas waiting to get people on the way out

To be fair, it’s not on the nose patriotic like say Roland Emmerich Independence Day or Bays Pearl Harbour.
They don’t ram that down yer throat.

Do I have to have seen the first one to get this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nah, though you should see the first one anyway as a matter of urgency as it’s a classic

Its an absolute cheese fest. I hated it.

From my experience people who dont like a good proper cheesy action film tend to be proper weirdo's.

tend to think they are too important for them and unable to let go and just let the film take them to where it wants to.

each top their own

Haven't even seen the original Top Gun. Just caught glimpses here and there. Should probably check it out. I've heard it's one of the campest films ever!

Top Gun was of its time and you have to view it in that context. Watching it now or decades after its release for the first time is always likely to disappoint.

Top Gun is a classic and is appreciated by most who saw it back in the day, for what it was, an Action Movie. While the 80s still saw some genuine classics like Platoon and Aliens, they're a slightly different genre and took themselves a bit more seriously than Top Gun.

Those who are too young to appreciate Top Gun at the time of its release are poorer for it, IMO, and then there is the usual amount of movie snobs who will discredit anything to make themselves sound/feel superior.

Havent seen TG2 yet but looking forward to it. It helps if you like a bit of military aviation like i do

I'm all for 80s films! It's just there's always been other things on when it was on in the past. I can stream now so no excuse!

I'm not a snob at all with movies (not that you were suggesting I was). I love Independence Day for example even though it's a pretty cheesy 2 hour watch!
