Arteta's Arsenal

I never want to hear people saying that Arteta needs to be given time to buy his own players and give him another window etc. We have now renewed Elneny and Nketiah. Elneny...I actually get. He is much maligned but he always gives you a 6/10 minimum.

Nketiah on the other hand...we need lethal strikers.. and he he not one. If Nketiah was content being 2nd or 3rd choice...fine. But we know he WANTA more game time..which is great...just get that elsewhere. Him staying means that he has gotten assurances that he will play a considerable amount. I think if we get Gabriel Jesus, we will have them two and Balogun as a backup. Which will be a shockingly bad strike force to go into a season fighting for top 4 and Europa League. Jesus is not prolific...even in that an City team and Nketiah is not either. I fear it will be another poorly planned season judging by what we are doing.

From Vlahovic (which I don't believe) to Nketiah. You could not make this up.

Isn't he behind Smith-Rowe for goals vs minutes this season? He offers too little, especially outside of goals to be good enough in this formation (might be better in a different one but can't say either way on that)

Nope, ESR is 1 every 197.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough, perhaps the thing I saw was out of date then or maybe you needed a minimum 10 goals to qualify

I'd be keen to see whether Smith Rowe could play as a false 9 with Martinelli and Saka further ahead
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Uuurgh...flashbacks to Villareal and the false 9.
No thanks..we are not City.

Well ideally we get a proper CF who can bring others into play as well as finish. Until that happens though we need to experiment, Eddie hasn't shown much to say he's the guy to do it so other internal options should be looked at. Lacathreat did better for a spell but we shouldn't be keeping him at his age, wage and limited ability

We have also been linked to Osimhen.

I don’t get the hype on this guy, he doesn’t actually score many goals

24 in 51 for Napoli and 13 in 27 for Lille before that. Seems a fair number of goals.

If Nketiah was 26/27 I could understand people feeling negatively about this. However, at 22 the guy is still very much developing - his improvement last season from the previous one is undeniable - and if he continues on his current trajectory he’ll be a very useful player to have around in the coming seasons.

We’re going to sign a striker this summer regardless of this. Hopefully a great one! With us having European football again, Eddie will have loads of opportunities for playing time, without necessarily being our 1st choice.

My only concern is the money being mentioned. If true (or even close to it) it pretty much means extending his contract HAS to work for us.

Yeah when you look at it like that he is a goal every two games striker. I was just looking at goals per season where he has got 10 one year and 14 the next at Napoli and then wondering why the price tag being discussed is at Vlahovic levels

We don't know what the real price tag is for Osimhen. A lot of bluster from Napoli's owner. I think he needs an auction if he wants to get the sort of money he is quoting. Which is the real reason for the bluster.

Now I'll have a quick look at the OP
