Kalvin Phillips to City

...is this the start of a general re-evaluation of Phillips from 'hard working clogger' to 'actually a decent footballer'?

BTW adding Haaland and Phillips means they can put out a more physically combative XI when they want to.

Is he that physical though, no more so than Fernandinho?

When your squad is as impressive as City's you're not always going to bring in exciting players to help fill more practicle squad roles. He'll add something and he's English so probably helps them with the homegrown rule but I don't think he's a patch on a younger Fernandinho.

Interesting that City don't seem to be bringing through much from their youth teams.

He’s a cracking player and Pro will use him wisely over four competitions.

Don’t look at his recent performances - he’s been injured and for England he is far better in tandem with Rice!

Pep will get the best out of him!

Fernandinho is 37. He's certainly not going to give as many high-octane minutes as he would have a decade ago.

From a squad building point of view Phillips is a good signing especially with th5 sub rule as he can be brought on to assist in the control of games and give our other CMs a rest.

Our window goes from good to perfect if Cucurella comes in

Haaland = 51 million
Alvarez = 14 million
Phillips = 42 million
Cucurella = 45 million???

Out Torres = 62 million
Jesus = 45 million

Hope we keep Sterling.

I meant more Fernandinho at a younger age. Just not really sure Phillips is someone you can say will add physicality.

He’s a physical player, even if lacking height. The issue is his lack of technical ability.

Really? Always thought of him as more technical than physical. Not that he’s brilliantly technical but keeps things simple.

Haven’t seen loads of him admittedly.

He’s like Mascherano.
