Tbh I don't see the difference between getting giddy over a few poor first touches and misses and a few goals in pre season.

Nobody is giddy. What do you expect on an article like this? Nunez been labelled a 100m flop already so if he turns out good there'll be a lot of jumping around.

Spurs signed Carlos Vinicius on a year loan after he had scored 18 in 32 for Benfica in 2019/20.

He managed 1 in 9 at Spurs and never really looked settled. The game was a bit fast for him and despite him being a good size, a bit physical for him too.

Back in the day we also sigedn Helder Postiga (2003?). He had had a strong season for Porto and came to Spurs and flopped. 1 in 20 league games I think.

Wolves have signed plenty from the Portuguese league. Fabio Silva for £36m, from Porto. Very meh and i think hes just gone out on loan somewhere.

Raul Himinez has been a pretty good success. Not sure he'd be ideal in a top 4 team, but a very decent mid table striker.

Helder Costa from Benfica. Another meh signing.

I would agree that strikers from the Portuguese league are perhaps not best suited to the prem, and seem to be more successful going to La Liga.

You'd need to do a comparison with other leagues to make that conclusion. Just highlighting a couple of players that didn't do well doesn't prove anything.

Given the example of more than a couple....and why would I need to compare to.other leagues? He's coming from Portugal to the PL. Ronaldo did OK and may be one day Nunez will be the GOAT but the doubt in everyone's mind is he's had a break out season, will it continue. Personally I think you'd want to see a back up season for him really build on the previous season before spending what you did. He's now going to have to back up and develop at the pressure of competing at the top, which can make or break players, especially those who don't have seasons of consistent form to fall back on mentally.

It's comparative to say players or strikers from Portugal don't do well in the Prem. As in they don't do well when compared to players from which other country.

You can make an argument that players from any country don't do well in the Prem, and vice versa. It's one of those things where you see what you want or see and can support any argument you want to make.

Happens often when rival clubs sign players. People say so and so was crap coming from that country to cast aspersions. Basically, it's hot air with a tinge of jealousy.

You mean clubs should not use their scouting systems to identify players before they hit their peak and every top club is after them? What a stupid approach that would be in terms of cost. Only the oil clubs can take this approach of only buying peak players.

Perhaps this is where Spurs are going wrong and why Liverpool were able to take Diaz before they got the deal done?
