The people behind the attempt for a breakaway European Super League have announced the new format that they hope to get going by 2026. It would be alongside the Champions League, but meets the criteria laid out for it to be a legitimate competition by the super courts outlines.
They want a 96 team competition, with clubs qualifying via their league position. It would be 4 leagues - The Star League, the Gold League, The Blue league and the Union league. The top two leagues will be 16 teams each with both leagues split into 8 teams. Then two leagues of 32 teams - split into 4 sub-divisions.
They want 10 English clubs across the competition, with 3 in the top division. It is said to run from September to April.
Instead of TV rights, they want to stream it on their own platform.
Details are still scratchy, but the format will see 14 league games then 2 legged quarter finals. The semi finals and final will be one off games played in a week in a neutral venue.
The people behind it, the A22, are determined to get a competition going and will not let it go. They are heavily linked to Real Madrid, Barca and Juventus so you have to expect them to go for it. For most top teams, though, it doesn't seem that attractive. However, who knows? The World Cup wasn't attractive to most teams 100 years ago, the original European Cup took time to attract some countries.

I don't mind big change in football, but when its clearly driven by the interests of the few its sickening to see.
How can it be remotely acceptable that Barca, Madrid and Juve want to basically run a new competition?
Can't stand UEFA but they are the lesser of these two evils

Feel sorry for the fans that go to the games.
How can you expect people to go to games all over europe every weekend?
Also no doubt due to the time differences it will be all sort of stupid kick off times that dont suit.
Football was better when only the winners got into europe.
Now you can have a crap season and still get into the champions league and maybe win it the following year. We shouldn't be rewarding mediocrity.

I thought the new CL format was a shambles, and it's been quite enjoyable. I still find it pretty unfair as a completion though.

I feel like adding another 14 games would be fairly overwhelming as a fan, I think I'm already struggling to keep up with all the games and keep an active interest and that's as a fan, let alone a player.
