Want a ticket for the derby? Please!

Widely reported in the UK media that United are struggling to sell tickets for the big derby game v City this weekend at OldTrafford. I kid you not.

United have 50,000 Season Ticket holders. So that's the guaranteed (prepaid) revenue for the club for the entire Premier League season. So after c.3,000 tickets for each game are allocated to the away teams, that leaves c.20,000 tickets to sell, for every game, to the United Club Members who apply. Usually United have no problem doing this. And it is unheard of for big games like City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc.

Until now. Since Jim has increased the price of all match tickets to £66 a go and ended all concessions, guess what? The club cant sell them anymore. So what has Jim done? He has slashed the price of these tickets to £45 and introduced a concession ticket of £25 to sell them in order that we dont see rows of empty red seats at OT in the Blue Ribbon game of the season at OT, so the World can't see of TV what a twaaat he is.

On top of that, a survey by MUST has revelaed that 1 in 7 Season Ticket holders are considering not renewing next season, due to the price increases announced and the fact that there is little value for money these days in their minds from the sporting 'entertainment' dished out on the pitch by Amorim's United.

Have United finally killed the goose that laid the Golden Egg? You decide.

How do you get the commentary at games like you do on TV? Do you need to bring headphones or is it played out on the speakers in the stands? How do people know what's going on?

Very good post OP.
Because he is a billionaire ( I think ) £66 seems reasonable. I'm a lifelong red, but if I still lived in the UK I would hesitate. As a pensioner, with the state pension and a smallish personal pension I don't think I could pay that.
Yes, I run a car, eat well, holiday once a year, none of this seems extravagant to me, but it doesn't leave a lot.
Oh, and thank you to Equitable Life for helping so little.

Thats ok 52.... Jim doesnt want the likes of pensioners, loyal, time-served, (real people) fans like you patronising his new stadium plans. So dont worry about it. He certainly wont worry about your own personal financial dilema and choices. Unless...... you can make it this weekend for the City game, and he will do you a cut-price £25 deal.

Ineos' view will be that given the fanbase, there will always be fans who will stump up for the price-hike in tickets. I am not saying that this is right or fair, but that's how they seem to view it. The only way this won't happen is if in the long-term, fans refuse to pay so much.

Whether the OP's post is an example of reaction by the fans to this short-term or a more long-term view only time will tell, but Ineos will simply be banking on enough folk being willing to fork out top prices, regardless of the demographic.

Good post. The thing is with ManUnited is that it was always an unwritten deal between fan and club. We will be the fabulous Red Army and turn out for you in our hoards evey week rain or shine. And in return you be the swashbucking glory making entertainers developing local youth players in to legends playing in the best stadium.
