Accident waiting to happen

After the Taiwo Awoniyi horrific collision with the goalpost on Sunday, it further highlights the total stupidity of allowing play to continue when there is a clear offside beforehand.
This type of injury/accident was totally preventable but inevitable with the current way the Laws of the game are applied by match officials.

I feel that with all the meddling in the game such as not penalising holding in the box and this playing on when the flag should go up is as though FIFA, UEFA and the various football regulators are trying to reinvent the wheel.
The game has become more about the match officials than the players these days, which is definitely the wrong way round.

until that stat is worked out, we cant say anything really.

But Iv never seen it happen in a game and I have seen thousands of play ons from offsides. So for me its at a ratio of greater than 1000:1 at least.

In England injury time has risen 12.2%, or 44 seconds, since VAR was implemented. Yet compared to its European peers, the Premier League has plenty of room for growth. Injury time in La Liga has risen by 92.8 seconds – a 41.6% increase on pre-VAR – with an extra 82.4 seconds in the Bundesliga and 82 seconds in Ligue 1. Make of that what you will.
Another player injured from a bad offside call was Rui Patricio when chasing Mo Salah.

Sadiq Khan Out. Knife crime and injury time are his fault.

This is one isolated incidence that can happen at any moment on the pitch. Nothing to do with allowing play to go on
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is not an isolated incident, there have been a number of injuries that could have been avoided if the whistle had been blown earlier, remember the Pickford challenge on Van Dijk? Also because players have to chase on to the end this can increase the risk of hamstring injuries etc. I know players will pick up a hamstring injury in other situations too but it doesn’t help if they have to make unnecessary challenges at full stretch when the opponent is offside.

Hawkesby & Jacobs have been discussing the exact same thing on Talksport this afternoon. The people we need to blame are not the match officials, they are just following the protocols set down by IFAB, who whilst knowing the Laws of the game inside, have no real experience playing the game at senior level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The VVD one wasn’t a late flag though. It was the type of situation which would have resulted in an offside not being given in the past, incorrectly.

Ban correct decisions so the game can finish 44 seconds earlier.

Injuries such as hamstring strains and tears are generally ‘waiting to happen’. It’s not a single occurrence that causes it, more a build up of fatigue or an underlying weakness. That one extra run or challenge from a delayed decision will not be the cause.

The lad is in an induced coma from a rib injury?

Mad. And you thought our medical dept was bad

Speaking to BBC Sport, consultant colorectal surgeon Gillian Tierney said the type of injury Awoniyi suffered can be fatal.

"The injury is really serious. It is potentially life-threatening," said Tierney.

"It is very easy to miss at the point of contact and can take hours to diagnose.

"In a hospital setting we would send a patient for a CT scan which could take up to 10 hours.

"If it occurred to an athlete who was super fit, very muscular and was running on adrenaline then I think it would be extremely understandable to miss it. Fluid leaking from the intestine would not be easy to diagnose straight away.
