Forest v Porto - UEL - Match Thread

It would be appropriate to start with a mention to Stuart Pearce and his family after the horrible news of the sad passing of Harley Pearce at the age of 21, must be horrendous

One of the reason's Pearce is so loved an admired was the non-nonsense defending, something we have missed in recent weeks and hopefully something the Sean Dyche can bring back

Forest Focus

Only Ola Aina listed as currently injured so Dyche has a plenty of choice for his first squad. He has nearly always gone with a back 4 so i do expect an switch from 3 CB, my guess would be

Sels

Savona Milenkovic Murillo Williams

Luiz Sangare Anderson

MGW Wood CHO

The Opps

Porto currently top of the Liga Portugal with 7 wins and 1 draw plus 2 wins so far in the Europa league - they haven't been beat since they played in the World club cup in the summer.

players to watch out for include the dangerous Aghehowa, Moura and Gomes. They also have Bednarek and Kiwior who are familiar from their premier league days.

going to a be tough game but one that could inspire the lads and a good performance should be a turning point in the confidence, lets get this season kick started.....

we should not underestimate this

Porto are a proper club, champions league winners in my lifetime, they sit top of one the best 5 leagues in Europe, long unbeaten record and full of quality players

this is a great win

we have taken 4 pts from the two pot 1 teams

the next 3 UEL games are against teams in the bottom third of the league

That really gives us something to build on, and I’d go so far as too say we actually put two decent halves together, well done to the lads.
We obviously need to work on defending set plays, but Dyche is the one man who you would choose to help tighten up the defence.
All in all, plenty of positives to move forward with.

First win since August, first clean sheet since April, and our first European victory since 21 Nov 1995 — a 2–0 win over Porto in Dyche’s first game! Whether it’s luck, the manager bounce (or both), we’ll take the two pens and offside goal all day. What a night! COYR 🔴🌳

Such a perfect balance between defence and attack. Credit to Sean Dyche for recognising our most effective defence structure.

Much better but still plenty of work to do to get back to something like last season’s levels

It is an interesting comparison

With Nuno at West ham, Moyes at Everton and now Dyche at Forest they have all had success and questions marks about their methods - with them all swapping around it will be interesting to see who comes out best!

That is a set of results I’ll also be looking closely at for the same reasons Red. See you on here Sunday.
