Rohl Away?

Seems to be a lot of noise on social media at the minute that RB Salzburg are pushing to sign Rohl as their new manager

Also hearing chat that if he does go, it's Gerrard we are getting??

Anyone else hearing this?

Spot on Hamish

The jury hasn't even begun debating regards McInnes, think most bears will wait and see what kind of performances/results we start seeing under him before making wild predictions

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much to a man Rangers fans didn’t want Martin. And they were right. He was an utter clown.

Rohl always felt a slightly underwhelming choice and particularly towards the end he kind of looked like he had bit off more than they could chew.

A lot of fans would have been happy with Gerrard. As Celtic fans have been at pains to point out he only won one trophy out of 9 with us and has done nothing in management since. SG would deffo have given the fans a lift but who knows if he would have been any good.

We could have gambled on another foreign coach but it’s clear the learning curves that new managers have to go through with the club, the fans, the league, the ‘interesting’ officiating etc.

McInnes might not ultimately have as high a ceiling as Rohl but he looks like a good fit and a solid appointment. We start training on Monday and we have a new manager in place who will be super clear on the task at hand and the limitations of the current squad.

Whether he can deliver remains to be seen. I’d say he’s earned his shot at it.

Last season was nothing remotely close to that for Celtic, it should have been a continuation of Celtic's dominance over this league ....in the end the title was won, but Celtic's dominance over this league was very much brought into question, with their own fans protesting because that gap has been getting smaller and smaller over time
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You throw that out very glib without defining what you really mean! Is the dominance just any win in which case your comment about it being called into question is meaningless.

If you mean win by x points I ran the data since 2012 with a polynomial regression and in actual fact the trend is virtually flat since 20/21 predicting a win by 6-6.5 points every year! Not a huge stretch to win it by just 2.

Or am I missing your point?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
21-22 93 points margin 7
22-23 99 points margin 7
23-24 93 points margin 8
24-25 92 points margin 17
25-26.......82 points margin 2

Think that pretty much says enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, so you want to make it about the points, not just the winning. I've added in the winning margin above which clearly contradicts "that gap has been getting smaller and smaller over time" unless you want to count this years sample size of one as a trend!

It's really hard to win a title. FWIW I'm not as optimistic as Mags, never am, but that can change, not even back our holidays yet, still to see who Rangers have to sell to keep the spending going. I note that Shankland scored 10 of his 16 league goals against the top 6 - Might suggest he struggles against more defensive teams, dunno, just a stat.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps getting smaller and smaller over time was a bit of an exaggeration, but a 10 point difference in points tally compared to the last few seasons is a clear drop, and I suppose my argument was more in relation to the Celtic fans protests, who feel the quality of the team has been in steady decline for a while, and I've just equated that to "the gap getting smaller" so to speak

You really don't have to preach to me about how hard it is to win a title, but it would stagger me if any Celtic fans felt last season was an improvement or progress form where you were the last couple seasons....your title win last season being more enjoyable becoz it was a close run race has fck all to do with that point, yet that seems to be a common comeback when it's raised

As for our chances......I have absolutely no idea how well we will do under McInnes. I am quite sure there will be a lot of movement regards the squad in the coming months too. Only thing that gives positivity is that there seems to be a focus on getting people and players in that actually know the league who might actually perform well in it, as I feel that has been a downfall of ours in recent years.

We've got players in with good reputations and good technical ability, but they've been guys that simply do not appear to have the fight or the work rate needed, and at times want too much time on the ball as they have been afforded elsewhere but not here

Yeah, it does. When he knocked rangers back years ago there was plenty chatter about how he wasn’t good enough. Now, there’s a fair amount of rangers fans chatting like he’s the messiah-not on here, I’ll add.

But it’s good to see you back anyway! That late spring-early summer disappearing trick you do has become an annual event. Wonder why.

‘The decisions that had a huge impact on the outcome were hard to take.’

Shankland deciding to not bury into an open goal at Motherwell? Using one of your subs immediately at the start of the 2nd half of the most decisive game of the season? Playing for a draw and hoping you might be able to snatch a win in said game? Wearing your cap back to front at a Scotland game?!
