This year was different to the norm because of the World Cup. The window was closed for a while so there was a catch up. I’m describing what usually happens. The remaining weeks will still see the most transfers I imagine.

There’s two possibilities. One that there’ll be little happen in the rest of the window and I’ll admit I was wrong. And I think you would get more joy from that than you would from wolves making good signings, given the high proportion of your posts that are about you trying and failing to score points against me to maintain your obsession. Alternatively there will be quite a few comings and goings and you won’t admit to being wrong.

Then bring in three players we’ve never heard of at €10m each, will that constitute a good window and the being right?

The point wolfie is making, is that once again we are behind the curve and will end up significantly worse off and weaker

Transfer Window Breakdown

English football operates under a two-window system (the mid-season winter window in January and the major pre-season window spanning summer). Activity is heavily skewed toward the summer period, where July and August dominate.
August: Captures the highest percentage of total annual transfers. Clubs finalize remaining squad needs and complete a massive surge of business right up to Deadline Day.
July: Sees steady business as pre-season starts, but totals are lower than August's final rush.
June: Minimal activity occurs here, as windows usually open mid-to-late month, with most clubs only agreeing to terms conceptually.
January: Represents only a small fraction (roughly 15% or less by financial value and volume) of yearly transfer business compared to the summer window.

Cinci, you can put up what you like. I'm merely pointing out that there were many transfers at the end of July and there wasn't "a lull" as your mate stated. Plus, I think we're all aware of what happens during a transfer window, but thanks for reminding us.

The biggest concern actually is not that transfers won’t happen, it’s if sales not expected go through too late to bring in a replacement. With quite a few changes likely late on, it is quite a balancing act

Bit of a fairy story in the Portuguese league today for Academico de Viseu. Their stadium holds less than 7,000 and they have spent most of their existence in the 4th and 5th tier of the Portuguese league until climbing up to the second division early this century where they’ve usually finished in the bottom half. But last season they got promoted via the play offs to the top flight for the first time in their history. And to welcome them their first game was today away at Benfica. And they drew 2-2.

The WC has been over for 3 weeks now and some of our players were finished well before then. Santi didn't even get a game for Uruguay.

Apart from Krejci, there hasn't been a firm offer for any of our players, and we turned that down, apparently. Plenty of rumours about players coming in, but very few for players leaving.

Two free transfers early on and another who's out for months doesn't give me much confidence that "plenty" are on their way to the club.

No one but those actually making the decisions really know what's going on though do they? Every transaction in the transfer market is like buying a house in a long complex chain, and you have to multiply that by the number of players you're attempting to buy and sell. Naturally some of the chains in the matrix between buying and selling also overlap. You're waiting for lots of other things to happen to allow others to whilst also having to factor players and their family's individual needs wants and desires. Add in that bunch of leaches called agents who's very job it is to complicate and obvuscate to their own ends and you end up with this blocked up, constipated market.

It's a bit more complicated than saying, the world cup is over so players should be on their way to and fro now.
