He just hasn't got it in him.

....................

That's what people used to say about Vaughan and Hussain when they first started, but they ended up changing English cricket for the better through their roles.

Not as slow as me

Did people really say that about Vaughan and Hussain? I admit that I did about Strauss.

About Hussain they said he is too much of a individual person and at that time he still held his slightly "wild" reputation, many said he could not handle people as he had enough problems himself. Vaughan was accused of being too nice, wouldn;t make the hard decisions with players and would be too soft on them, they both turned out pretty damn good. I'm not saying Cook is the man, but lets give him a chance, where would we be if we had given up on Hussain, he did a far better job for English cricket than Vaughan i feel.

I don't know if you read or listened to Cook's post game interview's but in two of them he was talking about "desperate" and "desperation". These are not words one should hear from an England captain.

I did hear them yes. I suppose it's a case of each to their own. I find it a breath of fresh air to hear a captain being honest. We so often get this, "positive to come out of this" "we're inexperienced" players being rested as no one can say they have been dropped. Very refreshing to my mind. Honesty. He's said what everyone who saw the series was thinking.

He kept churning out those old cliches, we must field better, we didn't bat as well as we can. At the same time he kept picking the same team.

Well could well be very wrong, but a lot of those guys on the tour were new to the set up, no point trying them out for a game or two, give them the series to see what they can do. Why pick them otherwise. You tell nothing from giving someone the odd game, give them a run and see what they do. I'm sure Flower and cook found out more about them from a series like that, than one where we won it easily.
Although i do agree, he does seem to have picked up the Cricket captains manual of what to say in defeat.... at least with some honesty sprinkled in !
