Mohammed Ameer -what a great talent wasted

So, the three Pakistani players got jail sentences yesterday because of the match fixing. I personally believe Salman Butt won't really be a big loss as we will still be okay without him, Mohammed Asif i was never a fan of him, he was just full of trouble. However, Mohammed Ameer is what we need, at the moment we have Junaid Khan, Umer Gul and Razzaq is back now have to see what happens with him but Riaz won't play now probably because his been involved in the match fixing also apparently. Oh, how Ameer would come in handy!. Only 17 and was one of the best bowlers in the world and was the youngest player to get 50 wickets. Now i want to ask the question to you lot: Was the sentences and cricket bans fair?, Do you think their can still have a big part to play for Pakistan?

I personally believe it was the right thing what happened to the players, their just lucky it isn't longer sentence in jail and their should be ban for life for what their done. Asif and Butt are finished now, Ameer just might still have a future because he will be 24 when his 5 year ban is over.

I'm a Pakistan fan.

Thanks Kash. Interesting, i hope he gets given a chance. Pakistan need to make sure Junaid Khan doesn't do the same as Mohammed Ameer because Junaid is looking like a class player now.

I'm chuffed to see Afridi and Razzaq back.

Agreed.

I would defo have amir come back into the pakistan set up without a shadow of a doubt. The guy was 18 when this happened and pressurised by his senior. The judges in both cases (ICC and the trial in london) pointed to this fact, also add that to his lack of education and povertey and its hardly suprising that he got tangled up in all of this........... for that reason, i wouldnt hesitate in the slightest to see him back wearing the pakistani shirt..... The fact that m.Holding and imran khan gave him character refernces speaks volumes in my opinion..... yes what he did was stupid and the ICC ban is fair.... however, the 6 months jail term is way too harsh in my opinion......... Hopefully, he'll come out a matured individual....

I think the ban and jail sentence are correct, a severe deterrent is required for a crime that is hard to detect (i believe if it was a bookmaker rather that NOW reporter arranging the deal the no-balls would have raised eyebrows, nothing more).
However I really hope Amir returns. Reports in this country say he had merely £1500 of the money. Compared to his potential earnings this leads me to think he was coerced, naive about the consequences or believed there was no chance of being caught. Probably all 3 combined. Doesnt excuse him but mitigates the offence somewhat.
Any chance the ban could be reduced to 2-3 years for good behaviour?

salman butt is detestable.

asif has been in trouble several times before.

regardless of his talent, aamer was a naive young lad and it is only those holier than thou preachers on here that never did anything wrong when they were that age.

neon can go on about the integrity of the sport, but isn't raina still playing? samuels is also back after his ban.

who is cleaner than clean on here?

i wouldn't be surprised if half of you have smoked pot and all of you have committed that heinous crime of speeding.

if the offences committed carried the sentence of a ban sine die, then so be it. but they don't do they.

whether the icc are wrong or right with the punishments, that's what they have ruled.

it's the same way they are now not making DRS mandatory. we all know it's wrong and we all know why they are doing this, but they are still doing this so we have to accept it.

'ban sine die'? sorry i dont understandwhat that means. I have been convicted for speeding and possession of pot. I accepted the punishment for both, knowing i had transgressed. Amir should do the same

ban for life.

these guys will get punished (imprisonment and icc ban) and then they will be out to carry on with their sorry lives.

VOR - you are still allowed to drive aren't you?

these guys will be back playing cricket, just two of them won;t be top class anymore

Well said at such a young age peer pressure is immense especially from a supposed senior figure in Butt.

Aameer shouldnt have got a jail sentance maybe a suspended jail term as that looks like the new in at the moment for all sort of people.

Funny thing is that these 3 should have just robbed rich and they would probably have got a year in jail.
