Simon Redfern

Hearing the sad news regarding Gary Speed has bought memories flooding back of the tragic loss we once suffered when Simon Redfern commited suicide. For obvious reasons its not a subject often spoken about. I remember we had played at Bromsgrove Rovers that day and Simon had a real good tussle with exBrewer Mark Whitehouse. The news came out of the blue and was a complete shock to everyone at the club,it devastated the whole season.My mate Steve Spooner was in that side but we rarely spoke of the matter. I remember seeing Simon make his debut and saw most of his career as he stayed loyal to the Albion.Perhaps you could liken him to Darren Stride in later years. I can remember the total disbelief and numbness of the supporters at the time and the affect it had throughout the whole club which i really can't put in words. So today i will spare some thought for both of them and their families as reflection on what they have left behind outside of football.
