Alex McLeish's nickname, Big 'Eck...

Why is he called that? I can see that 'eck is the last syllable of Alex if pronounced Alec, but I've never heard of anyone called Alex/Alec with that nickname, and can't find anywhere online to explain it.

Eck is indeed and abbreviation orf Alex... as for the big bit, can only assume at some time in his career there was another, smaller guy called alex at the same club, so they became big eck and wee eck and it stuck.

though i'm only guessing.

Ianan, that's actually a pretty good guess, I'll go with that unless someone offers proof of another reason

Probably comes from his days of being a centre half up in Scotland, big eck. I did prefer my take on things but it seems I may have been a little over descriptive

It would be like he never left and Tactics would be the same.
