Is it still an excuse?

maybe familiarity breeds contempt an all that but Only An Excuse (Beeb last night) has, as i ve suspected for at least 5 year, has surely had its day. I cannae believe that Watson fella still getting the telly and STILL doin Frank Macca impressions pretty sure most folk under 25 dont really ken he's based on a former fitba player .

Staple o Hogmanay telly i know but i think enough is enough.

I actually missed about ten minutes of it as I went to the kitchen to prepare some grub the second time his Denis Law character appeared. Somebody should tell Watson that apart from the fact Law is seldom seen on TV nowadays, an impression of a forgetful rambling bore is more boring to watch than it apparently is to perform. And McAvennie likes the burds - we get it! I don't actually want OAE to get scrapped, I just want some new writers and new performers to bring this show into the 21st century.

The sad thing is, it's still the best thing on TV on Hogmanay. A Tony Hayers type of person is desperately needed at BBC Scotland to clear out the deadwood. I'm glad we watched the fireworks display on BBC HD instead of the dreary old bearded drunkards with Jackie Bird.

this should have been scrapped circa 1994

The firework show on BBC HD was good.

For me OAE has mirrored Hogmanay in its decline. When I was younger it was brilliant, now id rather go for a couple in the local then up the road. And I'm only 30!

It was absolutely dreadful!

It is actually a good idea to do a programme about Scottish Football and make it a comedy, because the majority of Scotland likes football. However, it is rank. His impressions have never really been that good, to be honest. There is no thinking behind the programme, it is too obvious and too predictable and is now outdated.

Some of the comedy about Scottish Football on this website is funnier and that is when we are all at work on a Monday afternoon and are near enough brain dead.
