Gareth Ellis is heading home......

Good news for Leeds fans and S/League in general with the news Gareth Ellis is heading home after this current season by deciding not to take up his 2013 option to stay with the West Tigers.......

Article in this mornings paper.........

Gareth Ellis - one of the greatest English imports to play in the NRL - will return home next year after being given a release by Wests Tigers.

The Tigers allowed Ellis to opt out of the final year of his deal in 2013 - with the English Test backrower likely headed back to Leeds, where he played from 2005-2008.

His impact on the Tigers is summed up by the fact he snared the club's player of the year title in each of his three seasons in Australia, that in a side containing Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah.

Ellis had always indicated an intention to finish his career back home, having played for Wakefield Trinity and Leeds before arriving in Australia for the 2009 season.

The 31-year-old renegotiated a new contract midway through 2011, which included an option for him to leave after this season.

"I feel the time is right for me to return to England," Ellis said.

"It was a difficult decision to make as I have really enjoyed my time at Wests Tigers.

"I have a young son now, my wife Rachael and I feel it is time to head home to our families at the end of this season."

His impending departure will only heighten the Tigers' desperation to clinch this year's title, having come so close in each of the last two campaigns.

Cas will be his favoured destination, but salary cap etc will mean he ends up at the Rhinos - oh how I wish he'd come to the Bulls

BullPower......???

Please explain....why would Cas be restricted any more then Leeds would be in gaining Ellis's signature..

The article does say he is more then likely heading to Leeds but money talks all languages these days..

Will he want to come back to Yorkshire - or will the lure of the £'s in Warrington or Wigan prove too much to resist?

I suspect he'll base his decision on where his career is best served. I'd imagine he'd be able to have his choice of clubs.

Me personally if i had the choice i'd opt for a couple of years living and plying my trade in the South of France. All that sun, all the food and wine. The women aren't bad either - just need to learn to shave a bit !!!

Cas have reigning MoS Rangio Chase (not cheap!!) and I doubt they can afford to spend the full cap limit Souths - if you read the above he wants to ends his days as a Tiger......

I dont think Ellis is for Wigan, they seem well off for backrow men,but I would just like Souths comments on the story that Anthony Minichello is to head to Super League next year with Warrington being the favourites.
The story was in a Evening paper yesterday, the said paper is normally pretty reliable on these things.

theo, I can see Mini going to the S/League for sure......both he and Anasta are up for re-signing and with a team of relatively young members there contracts will have to be up-graded, so one or both may be forced out.
Mini would be a great purchase for Warrington.

It wasn't long back that Gaz Ellis said he wanted to finish his career at Cas. And realistically, it's only Rangi and McGoldrick that are on "big contracts".
