VAR is a load of balls
If that goes out for a corner, the ref checks it and gives the pen IMO, yet because play continued no pen??
VAR checks everything, if they were going to overturn they would have told him on the earpiece and he would have stopped play next time the ball went out of play.
Play went on for ages g7
I think the ref was embarrassed to go back that far
He thought it wasn’t a pen. If he wanted to check he could have stopped play and made the motion for the VAR check.
The VAR checks everything throughout the match and if they though it was a “clear and obvious error” they would have told him on the earpiece.
Personally I think it was a pen but the ref didn’t refer it because he thought it wasn’t and the VAR must not have thought it was a clear error so no overturning the decision.
It was a clear pen
Tug back on the shoulder when striker was ready to shoot + a sliding tackle without getting the ball
My initial point was the ref would have been more willing to check VAR if the ball went out immediately. Because play carried on for a couple of minutes before play was stopped I think the ref was reluctant to go back to the incident.
Penalty decisions should be decided on circumstance (how long until the ball goes out of play)
Undoubtedly VAR needs refinement but it is good enough in its current iteration to have given that pen.
Even if the ball had immediately gone out of play I don’t believe the ref would have asked for VAR.
The video assisstants should have told the ref that he had made an error.
Lol Germany
Don't the VAR officials tell the ref if he has made an error to go and check the tv at the side of the pitch?
I didn't think the ref had to be unsure
The ref doesn’t have to check the monitor on the side of the pitch, just an option.

It's gonna happen before the month ends. I'm predicting this Monday.
Lamps bigging up RLC on his article for the BBC. Hope he have a blinder and keep Ali out of the team.

Don’t have a problem with that. I think Rashford is more effective as an impact sub anyhow.
Not sure if 3 5 2 suits Sterling though
