Not weird at all.
There was time Leboeuf was our first-choice (regular) pen taker, due to being the best at taking them under pressure.

Promoting youth team coaches isn't a new thing. Clarke, Rodgers, Clement, Holland all were promoted from the youth teams to the first team (Rodgers I don't think was ever officially promoted but he worked a lot with the first team during his time here). And most of them were promoted when a new manager joined.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I never said it was anything new. And Rodgers doesn't count.

My point being that Edwards is the guy that oversaw the Youth team winning back to back FA Youth Cups (first time that's happened since the Busby Babes) and that Edwards has known and worked with players like Tammy, Mount and Tomori since they were 8 or 9 years old.

Gives a very clear idea what Lamps and co are aiming to do next season.

George McEachran might just commit to a new contract as well.
Future opportunities at Chelsea will be tougher for him though, too much competition.

Whether or not we have a choice is irrelevant as it's the right direction for the club to be heading in at this stage and promoting people like Joe Edwards is definitely a step in the right direction.

Our coaching staff is starting to take shape very nicely indeed and we're going to have a first team coaching set-up made up of people who've been at the club for years already.

Superb the club don't have a choice. We have a squad with a lot of holes and a transfer ban.

I stand by my prediction that Lampard won't sacrifice short term results for youth development.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you not think it possible the club remits him to do so for just this one coming season?

Now we see what effect Castillo signing a new contract will have on Dasilva.

this is based on hiring top managers with big budgets to sign players and go from there,

lampards appointment is a sure sign that youth development is key

when i say youth development i still mean the very best players coming through who can turn into very good players and in Cho and RJ's case world class

its also not understating the actual value of having good youth players in place of dross like barkley and drinkwater

club could also make some money on alonso / Emerson and replacing them with players such as Castillo or Dasilva who are at the moment no worse than they are and potentially even better

Biggish potentially but then it would be very out of character for RA.

Also youth development is a bit nebulous and in the eye of the beholder. Take Barkley / Mount. Lampard could easily decide that Barkley is better now and will be a better player over the next 3-5 years with more development (he's only 25 - Lampard only became Lampard when he was 24/25). So the club and Lampard may count playing and prioritising Barkley over Mount as player development.

if there is one player who i think is chit but lamps might be keen on its ross barkley

All I know is that castillo is like a 30m signing straight of the bat

Looked like he was off to juve at one point

Hope Dasilva or Castillo staying, has the knock-on effect of forcing Alonso to leave.

Youth development is nowhere near as vague as you're suggesting. Barkley is no longer a youth and we brought him to the club when he was 24, so not even a youth then either.

As for Lampard not becoming Lampard until he was 24/25 I'm not exactly sure what that means. Lamps scored 14 goals for West Ham from central midfield in the 99/00 season when he was 21/22 years old. Is that not Lampardy enough for you?
