We were one of those clubs npe but what you need is to have a spine of players that are consistent then enough money to keep adding quality around that - we have neither of those things right now.
The club seems like they want to go down the route of academy players making the step up. Now I’m not overly fond of that, I think there’s a culture of playing youth for youths sake. However if that’s the philosophy we’re going with, undeniably the bumps in the road will be rough, like today was.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think we are the best example of one of those clubs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think we were, having lost Hazard now thats changed.
We have to create a new spine of the side and the club seem to want to do this through the academy rather than by spending money. That’ll take time or it could be that the players coming through the academy aren’t good enough (as was the case with the class of 2010 Bruma, PVA, McEachran etc). But that’s the risk the club is taking.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing has changed yet. We got into that position over many years and it will take another club changing managers many times to win things to find a better example. Of course by then I hope we have won many more trophies under less managers but time will tell.

I mean it’s changed in that we could get by on short-termism when we had a player like Hazard to bail us out. We don’t have that anymore.
Shore termism worked from 2005-12 because of the Cech-Terry-Lampard-Drogba spine then big money players around that. It’s worked since then because of Hazard. We don’t have that now unfortunately.
It's not going to happen from the first game of the season though. Pulisic will be an excellent player for us imo and will start to show that hopefully sooner rather than later. CHO returning and RLC will add more goals and more threat from midfield, and I would like to think Mount can chip in with a handful as well. Definitely a silver lining knowing we have 2/3 players who we know will add quality to the team this season rather than having to wait until next
Hopefully CHO and RLC aren’t hampered long term by those injuries, particularly RLC’s.

No but we have a new team to build, players come and go and I've lost count of players gone by that I feared we would never replace.

For me if everyone was fit;
Kepa
James- Rudi-AC-Emerson
Jorginho-Kanté
Pulisic-RLC-CHO
Abraham
CHO should be fine as his recovery etc went a lot faster than everyone thought. RLC is one of those players that will have to be looked after a bit more, think he will have niggling back problems unfortunately.

I think Giroud will play on Wednesday, only fair as he was a big part of what us got there.

Never thought I’d say this but I’d even rather Willian than Pedro.
Ideally just go 2 up top, can’t be any worse than having one of willian or Pedro playing, as I said last season and I’ll repeat, it’s Malouda/Kalou all over again both have declined massively and are finished. Ala Ivanovic/Azpi at RB

Meh been a while since England had a very good CB so they can and should soak it up
Lampard knows Azpi is in decline, he mentioned RJ will be important for us this season so he's definitely got plans to get him in
Pedro was poor today, he kept losing the ball and dribbling in his own half.
Not against Azpi at CB though, still rather him than Zouma or AC
AC is slightly better defensively than Zouma (i’m Not judging on today’s game), but Zouma at least carries a goal threat and better aerial ability which Christensen doesn’t which is weird for a lanky guy. Needs to toughen up

Been poor 90% of the time since last season. The odd braces just masked it, same as Willian. They have their good games 1 in every 4 or 5, but as a whole they are mid table level now. Past it
