I don't think any of us expect Zappa to be brilliant but he deserved a chance. Especially when the current RB has been pretty poor for at least a year.
Similar situation at LB, Alonso was pretty poor for a while. We tried Emerson for a run of games and now look at him, established himself in the 1st team.

He had gad chances, never caught the eye and has trained under 3 managers. I think that is enough time to evaluate.

He never had a chance imo, which is 3 or 4 games in a month. not 1 game then dropped for a month. He always impressed me regardless.

RJ is 6 foot so an advantage on Azpi there.

Emerson would gave made more appearances if height was not an issue for Chelsea. It is still an issue now, but Emerson is making the case for Azpi to be dropped for someone talker.

I don't believe are weakness at set-pieces is down to height. It is a lack of organisation and concentration

How many set pieces do they concede a game? We concede a lot and are all over the place when defending them. I can see Alonso returning to the first XI soon.
A lack of height from corners is an issue when we got Kante on Van Dijk
While I do think he should’ve gotten more chances, I don’t think it’s unfair to say he’s average..he has played a decent amount for us to know what he’s good at, what he isn’t, and his career upto now is largely unremarkable.
With Emerson you could see higher potential/ceiling in his play (imo), he also had a good season with a good team before a bad injury. He is just two years younger but he’s actually quite an inexperienced player appearances wise, for his age. He has same first team appearances as many 21/22 year olds.
