Or as I think myself and Gazza are posturing (though correct me if not Gaz) if she thinks they will be prepared to drop the price she is happy to draw this out and see for the sake of anything up to 10m potentially saved
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that too, but for 20m perhaps 15m discount to valuation and i dont see her budging from that.

I agree and I said if we can't financially justify/make it work going higher than £70m then that's the reality of the situation.

I'm kind of intrigued as to how a footballer can be worth £70m but not £90m though. Maybe if we think there's no chance Havertz signs a 2nd contract with us so buying him involves thinking about his resale value in 3-4 years time and we don't think his fee will ever rise above £90m?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is a house worth 500,000 and not 600,000? why is a company worth 3bn and not 4bn?

i am intrigued by your comment?

Well because a £600k house is likely to be in a better location/be larger/have better furnishings etc and a £4bn company is likely to be more profitable/have more assets/have less debt/have more growth potential than a £3bn company.

I'm not sure that applies to a footballer. I can't think of an example where a player was good value at say £60-70m but would have been bad value at £80-90m.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What if his resale value was 90m ?

Forgetting the Neymar anomaly....

The best players in the world have sold between 100m and 135m euros.

There needs to be upside risk in a transfer, especially during a global recession.

That is why Ii feel the two purchases that we have made already are fantastic with .huge upside risk.

Both players are going to have to be absolute rubbish for us to lose money on them

I agree. I said that fits above.

Suspect Leverkusen would say you sold a 28 year old with 1 year left on his contract for £105m potentially rising to £130m (it is £105m now as Real have won the league). Why do you not think you couldn't sell Havertz for a bigger fee in a few years time?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
that was then...markest are dynamic...do you think we would have got that price for Hazard now?

Can we quantify money the players generate for the club when they are with us?

Though talking resale value does sort of ignore that the primary value a club should get for a £70m player is utility.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think both are equally important....especially for a club with a 43,000 capacity stadium

I can't but the club should be able to so with a medium margin for error

They probably dont on an individual basis

Its probably a waste of time to work out that revenue unless its obvious. Such as a specific player doing certain commercial activities for the club

Nope but I would be shocked if the transfer market hasn't stabilised and bounced back* in 3 years time.

*I say bounce back but there seems to be little evidence that coronavirus has impacted big transfers as of yet
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think in 3 yeasr time it will be where it was prior...so i would be worried at paying 90m pounds right now

there are very few transfers at present, certainly big ones...

The litmus test transfers look lieing Havertz and Sancho.
