I agree. It got into his head but typically, last year, he woudl have overcome those pieces of bad fortune.

Tenez, I think the loss of his Grandfather has maybe weakened his focus a little, plus as number 1 seed, he's there to be shot at now.

Maybe Jonty but I doubt. Today it was a case of clay getting into your head. As we lots of clay courts in France commentators have an expression for that "bogged down" where teh more agressive players simply lose all their feel and game.

McEnroe v Wilander or v Lendl are typical examples.

Once you lose your footwork on clay it becomes a nightmare. People who have played a lot on it would understand it. I am pretty sure.

Where in France are you based Tenez?

Nole did not expect to lost his match. I'm pretty sure that first sett derailed him momentarily and enable Nadal to earn the early break.
After that, Nole was catching up and unneccessarily abandoned the original tactics as he began to panic with the time running out.
Not a big deal. Better today than in three weeks

I am based in Wimbledon.

But play on clay the summer there...and while I was a student. Paris, Marseille, Toulouse are places where I spent 7 years or more.

Tenez, we holiday every year at Maison Lafitte near Paris where my mother in law lives and play at a great club there with a super coach, completely different surface which I've never fully mastered!

nole, sounds like you;re now agreeing with what I said earlier

I got ticket for CC on the first Monday but the seats are pretty high up. But I can't complain. I essentially like teh atmosphere, walking the ground seeing all those players current and past, referees, and all the other people surronding them.

As you know I prefer to watch the big matches on TV. That might change if we are given headphones to listen to commentating. I just feel that on centercourt, it's difficult to share comments to one another. People around listen and it's annoying.

Good on you. That's a nice suburbs of Paris. A former colleague of mine lives there.

Regarding clay, the trick is to never let it get into your head. Federer for instance lost his match versus old Guga there on a morning. All his shots misfired that day cause he coudl not find his footing.

That was his best chance to win FO....bar 09 of course.

noles early takeback on the racquet is a real asset on faster surfaces but when the ball sits up on clay as it does your timing has to be spot on and he seemed to over hit a lot of the time and looked bit tentative. I think due to the last 12 months nadal needed this more than djoko. djoko needed 'tuning in' in more than nada and this defeat may dip his confidence going into the french.however, it won't wreck it. i think the blue clay has really thrown things out of balance this year in the clay court season and rafa was right to maximise his game at barca and monte carlo as madrid didn't count in djoko or nadals mind.

I had the ticket there last year, too, the view is still pretty good.
I'll go to my local club tomorrow and leave the note if anyone doesn't want their ticket.
Other than that, second Monday early morning trip for me...

I did but only in part. He gave 90% today in that 2nd set.
I used to be gutted after this kind of losses pre 2011, but am not that bothered with this ow, for some reason.
Glad this shoddy pre-clay season is finished and RG is here, at last.
I'll tell you, Nole was livid after that call. I've never seen him like that. So another "scenario" in the experience bag. I hope there are no surprises left for RG.

Yes, I don;t think that final will have much repercussion on Nole....but it will certainly give Nadal a huge boost as he needed it.

Had Nole managed to win Rome, turned it around, it woudl have killed Nadal hope for the FO.

The King of Clay lives - Long live Rafa Nadal

To all the knowitalls on here who know absolutely nothing. Stick this result up your jacksie.

Amir - Congratulations and give this lot stick mate. They have been nasty, evil and obssessed with bashing Rafa for days and days.

Nadull? How childish is that?

Djokovic -

Off for a bath, now that the Norwegian Oil Industry has enough equipment to drill for oil, and with the 400 quid I picked up today, I might even order myself a chinese takeaway

Just read this on the BBC - ------- and Djokovic received a warning from the umpire for smashing his racquet at the change of ends after the Spaniard broke to go 6-5 up.

There's only one Rafa Nadal, ONE RAFA NADAL

Fed fan :p

nole, haven't seen a single shot during this final. When he threw his teddies out of his pram, where did they land?

I am not a big fan of his, but have to admit you V2ers are going to get a bit of a ribbing now

P.S.Whey do every single one of your little club hate him so much? Just asking like

posted on 21/5/12

Sorry for being in such a good mood guys I know you v2ers hate happy people, especially ones that are false

go to your fictional wife and holiday in Cyprus and have a nice evening.

Come on nole If that comment was true then I would be an extremely sad person. Insane even.

You Nadal bashers have to admit that today is a day you will get some pay back?

I will stop immediately if it bothers you that much.

Just reading that the defending champion djokovic choked. Can anybody confirm that?

Were the balls the right shape and size?

Come on Rafa fans, help me out here, we have loads to give back :p
