Can't figure out if Toby was at fault for their goal. De Jong (#9) lined up with #4 just behind and Toby seemed to be marking #4. When the ball came in it was heading for #9 and Toby moved round #4 and just missed the ball. De Jong got it, and that was their goal, less that 2 minutes gone.

Toby was at fault for needlessly giving away a corner in the first place

Barca will be through and top sonshould rest players. Why risk them if we can go through and play with intensity. Barca ain’t silly. Still hope and you couldn’t say that 20 minutes ago

You are better than Inter, so they might see it as a chance to dump out stronger oppo.

Wow. Just watched slow replay of their goal and shocking defending from Toby. He’s not even looking at the ball as it’s crossed so he can’t judge flight of it. Dreadful

Dele was marking him all night

It was a clever move by PSV to block Dele off tbf although Toby should’ve cleared as he had a free run but went to far.

I would never argue that giving away a corner means you're responsible for a goal scored from that corner. Seems totally silly!
The Stats in World Cup competition is as follows:
"Goals from corner kicks have again illustrated the impact that even rare events have on tournaments where scoring is relatively scarce to begin with. 19 goals from 474 corner situations in the initial group stage has led to a slightly higher than usual conversion rate of 4%. But with each side scoring an average of just over 4 goals in total in their three qualifying matches, even these low conversion rates have dramatic effects upon qualification for the knockout stages."

In the EPL a corner results in a goal 3.5% of the time.

I don't care if a goal only comes from every 1000 corners taken needlessly giving away a corner or a free kick puts your goal under threat and IF a goal does result then I would be extremely critical of anybody that gave away a needless free kick or corner.

There is also our undoubted weakness at defending crosses to take into account be it in open play or set plays. We do not defend them well therefore its a good idea not to give them away needlesly

Thank God you're not managing the club!!!
The statistics speak for themselves. A 3.5% loss rate is acceptable in terms of not giving up a worse situation than a corner. And Toby is a cornerstone (pun intended) of Spurs defence.
Spurs are better than average in the Prem for defending against Fks and Corners.
Of course, every fan would like them to do better. But that won't happen under Levy.

And I expect the statistics say that for every 30 chances a team will score 4 goals or more so why did we only win 2-1 tonight?

Stats are one thing reality is another

Anyway what a ridiculous argument

Today we conceded one goal from a needlessly given away corner. That corner resulted in a goal so even you must realise that if we had not given a stupid corner away in the first minute of the game we would not have been 1-0 down after 90 seconds or so.

But because the stats say not many people score from corners we don't have to worry about it.

I mean I know you are usually dumb but are you just having an extremely successful day today or something?

It is your opinion that the corner was needless. Probably Alderweireld disagrees with you.
I think most fans would trust his judgement, not yours!

Don't forget to worry about being run over the next time you cross a road, evn though that event hasn't happen yet, unfortunately!

FF ..... the discussion was about Toby giving away a corner unnecessarily. I didn't think he had. And so I called him the "cornerstone" of our defense.
