Looks like Levy is not touching certain players for fear of the financial cost of a <standard> occurring.
Ba, Remy etc.
Although having said that, is/was VDV similarly classified (given his apparently long-standing hamstring problems) ??
Chronic
So who actually wanted remy then? Most of the posters on here seem to think he is rubbish / overated.
=====================
Exactly, it's the Charlie Adam debate all over again. Nobody wanted him but as soon as someone signed him (Liverpool), some posters were moaning at the board for being slow.
If a player isn't good enough then why would we want to rush in & sign him? Let Newcastle have him - he's as much a replacement for Ba as Frazier Campbell would be for Defoe.
Chicken i don't agree on this one, Remy is better then most people think, he will prove to be a hit over here me thinks. He is very suited to the prem in my opinion.
Full back
I admit, i dont really know much about Remy - but (& i know this is a daft way to look at it) when the only known clubs to be in the market for him are Newcatle & QPR, you do have to wonder why this might be.
I might be proved wrong, but i just think we just want a player because we've heard his name mentioned quite alot in the transfer window - and he's a striker.
Ooo La Lala,
Morning fella.
* Newcastle not Newcatle.
Chicken,
I can't comment on anyone else but i have been talking about Remy since last season, i think he is a quality player and someone who i have watched a fair bit although not this season as he has been out injured and only just returned.
Michu was another that was only wanted by Swansea etc, doesn't mean he isn't a good player, QPR only want him because Harry has watchyed him for a season or two now and as for Newcastle, i think they have shown that there scouting team do a very good job.
Full back,
I totally accept the Michu argument but on the flipside, we cant assume all players that are worth £2m will turn out like him, so we still have to be extremely cautious when making new signings.
If you've seen Remy play then you are more qualified to comment on it than me but as i say, i'm convinced that alot of fans just want a signing because they have seen his name banded about - and we have to remain sensible & have confidence that our scouts and decision makers are weighing up all options correctly.
There will always be a bargain that slips through the net, but for every bargain there is an expensive flop just around the corner.
Oh & just to ad to, and i was saying this to a mate on Saturday, i cant remember the last time we did make a poor buy - so maybe we should take some confidence in that.
Bassong was probably the most recent one, although after watching him historically for Newcastle, and this season for Norwich, i'm not convinced he was all that bad.
Chicken,
Very true mate, i agree that a lot of people jump on the bandwagon when a player gets mentioned. Some people would be willing to sign player just because the papers have made a story, but equally a lot of people write a player off without ever having watched him...
TBF both Swansea and Newcastle have bought well recently so there targets shouldn't be laughed at.
I mentioned Gary Hooper the other day and got slated for it, for me he is a great player, a natural goalscorer who is capable with both feet and good in the air for his height. A lot of people said that players from Scotland are no good in the prem however, no one stops to think how well Jelavic is doing at Everton, he also came from up north and has settled well. I think Hooper is much better then Jelavic and could make the transition. He has scored and looked very good in CL aswell but because he plays for Celtic in Scotland, without watching him people say he must be carp and not Spurs standard, this winds me up
Ps both the players i have mentioned should be attainable for £10m which is not bad at all in the current climate and as i have mentioned earlier, i want someone hungry which is not what you always get for £30m.
Full Back, maybe if his name was Gazinho Hoopernandez then he'd probably get taken more seriously by some
Free Gazinho Hoopernandez.
Well, i think we all know who we would have been signing if Harry was still in charge.
He'll do well to get both Remy & M'Villa to be fair.
Sign in if you want to comment
