Next week’s final could be Koscielny’s last #Arsenal game, report L’Equipe. One year left on contract, he wants to play 2-3 more and no talks yet for extension. Leverkusen, Milan, Monaco, Rennes keen. Gunners want Barcelona’s Umtiti as replacement and could get him for €60m
=================
On paper, I'd be happy with this but Umiti knee still dodgy and any man and his dog know that. Report from France even say that he'd fail a medical as it stands.
Losing Kos, whom let's face it, is our best CB and not replacing him proprely will be scary

Few other CBs have been linked to AFC, whom to me are far more realistic: Konate, Hermoso or even Manolas.

Have a feeling we are after Hermoso. Kos have one year left on his contract. Would like to give him a one year extention. He wont and cant play the whole long season.

I agree. But if we can sell Chamber and freeze out Mustafi (unlikely to be sold), then we need to keep Kos. We need a new CB regardless and although talented, I have my doubt on Umtiti

Dont think we are going for Umtiti on 60M EUR and with this agenda.

Agree with you on "must buy" a CB regardless. I guess that if we do it, Chambers will be sold shouldnt we able to get rid fo Mustafi.

Tbh can see Chambers being retained and used more as a utility player than an out and out CB.

The homegrown factor playing a part...

Good point, Lex. Have forgotten about that.

That Fraser guy will bring an additional "homegrown" factor.
Not sure how I feel about this tbh. I'd rather much saving the money for a top class midfield and give Nelson a chance.

Yeah I'm not super excited about Fraser either, but I think it's less to do with him as a player - he'll probably do well for us - and more to do as an admission of where we currently are as a club.

Hopefully, if he comes, he'll help get us closer to where we should be.

Not homegrown, spent his youth in Scotland.

well, in that case, i'm even more against the signing.

Anyway, most important of all for me is prioritising sorting the midfield out. I can't believe all of our defensive failings are solely due to signing dodgy CBs. Our main problem is, and has been for far too long now, we just don't dominate games enough anymore.

That is my point Lex. If we were City and could afford to throw £20M for an average winger, then fine. But since our budget is (very) limited, I'd add that money towards a top midfield, give Nelson a chance.....and bin Xhaka in the process.

If we spend anything close to £30m on Fraser

posted on 24/5/19

I don't know what Fraser's contract situation is, but if he's a few years left on it I'd be surprised if we got him for less than £25m

Would rather go all in for Ziyech.
