Really makes you wonder how Rooney facked up go badly only getting one goal.

Unfit, shouldn't have been selected in the squad for 2006 after breaking his foot.

Not match fit for 2010 after missing the best part of the last 6 weeks of the season, probably shouldn't have been selected.

Treated appallingly by Hodgson in 2014 and shunted out of position on the left side where he was clearly unsuited.

A combination of Rooney being unfit and out of form at the WC, poor tactics from the various managers, and poor quality from the players playing behind him.

Look much better with 3-5-2. But the circumstances of the game probably also helps. They have looked far less secure defensively today.

How do you find time to watch these at 3PM on a Monday afternoon.

What would happen if some players, let's say (hypothetically) russian players get tested positive? Would the entire team get disqualified?

I remember him getting injured in the CL QF's and he wasn't really fit enough from then on. Shouldn't have gone. Didn't help himself playing when clearly injured.

Then Capello played him upfront alongside a big, cumbersome wardrobe that had just fallen on Rio Ferdinand, ending his WC before it started.

Russia know that if they come 2nd they play the last 16 game in Moscow. If they were to top the group (which now seems unlikely) they'd have to play in the soaring heat of Sochi.

Not saying they are throwing this game but I think they'd much rather be in Moscow and have no travel.
