It’s nothing to do with Messi when a coach sets up a midfield as badly as that. Vidal and Roberto ended up doing neither of the things that could have been beneficial.

Shame as the first twenty minutes, they were exposing Bayern’s high line quite a lot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.....no one remembers that after that result now.

You know you are in big trouble if you cant expose a defense playing Boateng as a CB
----------------------------------------------------------------------
bayerns defence is as bad as citys if not worse.

but up front they are piercing and clinical.

will be interesting to see what approach their manager will take when they face city.

I have a feeling if city get hold of the midfield and it could be a different game altogether

Balague "
It is the consequence of many years of decay. Nobody has been intelligent enough to identify what is happening.

It's embarrassing. Barcelona changed football. That heritage has been thrown in the bin.

Barcelona is so political and the players run the show. "

He was just scared to call out Messi specifically. Its an open secret.

Balague is a friend of Messi - he even wrote his official biography. He's just echoing what everyone here knows, Barça have not bought anyone decent since Neymar and losing him has cost us a fortune. WE've spent more trying to replace him than we got for him.

Add to that signings like Paulinho, Braithwaite and KP Boateng - players who were never going to work like Vidal and Gomes. Spending a fortune on Greizmann two years too late. Dembele always injured, Coutinho not fit for our system. It's a shambles!

They’ve spent a quarter of a billion pounds on Griezmann and Coutinho. And the latter came on and stuffed two goals against them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The game was already done when Coutinho done that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well yes I know that, doesn’t mean his goals don’t count.

Doesn't seem that long ago that this Bayern team were said to be in need of a total overhaul.🤔

They have no competition in the Bundesliga.

If Bayern not reaching the CL semis at least they are in deep crisis. Drama queens

The problem with Barça is we have no money. We pay really high wages to two or three players and then try to fill the team with average, low wage players who come for the prestige. These players are generally not of the right quality. Our board seem incapable of signing players, hence the high turnaround of players in the squad. The last two coaches have also not tried to stick to the style of football the club has played for many years now.

So we have ageing, astronomically paid stars, surrounded by players who are not good enough to play for Barça and a useless board. Recipe for disaster.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have paid 400m on Coutinho, Dembele and Griezmann.

Wow, Semedo had an absolute stinker of a game judging from the highlights. 6 of the goals came down his side. Not helped in the slightest by Barca's weird strategy of pushing him high and wide and not having anyone fill in the gap behind him. Against a team as strong on the wings as Bayern? Madness.

I've not watched Barca consistently in years but I get the increasing impression that they no longer have a coherent style of play, beyond simply getting the ball forward as quickly as possible to an aging Messi and Suarez. Crap transfers and uninspiring managers. That's my view as an outsider.

posted on 15/8/20

Every time I watch Barca Semedo is crap, but the commentators always suggest he has been playing well up to that match so assumed I was his bad luck charm.
Didn't watch last night, though

Ross County - with 3 players called Ross - level with Dundee United - who have no players called Dundee but 1 called Ross.

Goal dufc!!

posted on 15/8/20

At the start they used Semedo as their outlet for their build up play and it resulted in some chances.

They played very narrow in their build up play afterwards and the wide Bayern players came inside to press them which resulted in losing possession and chances for Bayern.

If they had a VVD or Tent then they could have switched play with one diagonal pass to exploit the space behind the high line.

He could have hid in the Tent after last nights humiliation.

Good win for the mighty Terrors

It is all well and good criticising players as if they are just terrible but the reality is none of those Barca players are terrible. The problem was the coaching of lack of. Simple adjustments would have kept the game competitive.
