Wenger Not The Man He Was?

"This isn't a dig..."

Good to hear.

"..he just seemed awfully quiet and very downbeat in his post match interview, like a beaten man."

He is.

"As much as I enjoy the rivalry and banter between our clubs..."

We do too. Though as things look at the moment, not sure we'll be providing you with much rivalry on the pitch this season.

"..I wouldn't want to see him go out like this."

Us neither.

"Just can't understand his reluctance to spend money when he's been told it's there?"

I don't believe Arsene really has as much as we're led to believe. Think the Kronke/Usmanov stand off might be kicking in already.

"Arguments can be made that they've been waiting for the money of the Cesc transfer..."

We've been strongly linked to Jadson. Hardly a like-for-like signing. Not to say he's not a good player. But hearing the name Jadson is hardly gonna set Gooner hearts a-racing at the moment is it? Not to mention draw bums to seats.

"..even though they still deny he's leaving!"

Truly bizarre press conference that was.

"Surely, it would have been better to bring in players early doors, get them bedded in and then mount a challenge for some silverware off the bat."

What we've been screaming all summer.

Do you think he should go now or can he pull it out the bag and sort things out himself?

Personally, unless Arsenal have an absolutely catastrophic season, I really can't see the board asking him to leave.

Much more likely - especially after Cesc's departure - is that he'll try his best with what's left at his disposal and if he fails, he'll walk away.

Hopefully it won't come to it. But the things are at the moment...

agree...is sad at the moment..but a win or two, and a good signing, can go a long way to life the black clouds..

I do NOT want to lose Arsene...no one better is available..but I would like to see him change a few habits...

Unless AW pulls of a couple of superb signings I can see the current squad getting very disillusioned. I can foresee a miserable season and then Wenger to quit. I agree with Lex, I don't think AW has had at his disposal anywhere near the amounts quoted in the press - whether that is the Board being too cautious or there is not the money available we will never know. However I dont believe AW was in a position to spend much until Nasri and Cesc situations were sorted. I also think that his talk of keeping Nasri and letting him leave on a free was a veiled threat to the Board to try to get them to release funds - but hey what do I know ?? But one thing is certain - at the moment AW looks a beaten man
