The shambles of an organisation that is FIFA means that we probably won't know for certain if he eligible so we won't play him.

I think we are waiting for FIFA or Cameroon to say we can play him without trouble.

FIFA press office is closed at weekends

What's the Matip situation then? Are we waiting to get him cleared or is it a definite no until the end of Afcon?

It's shambolic. This has all been decided months ago. He was never going. Nothing has changed in that time. We should either have a yes or no and the fact he was withdrawn from a squad due to a dont know is subday league stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you expect anything else from FIFA?

You'd think that may have been done at least last week, ideally weeks before. Like i said, nothing has changed recently. It's bizarre.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Presumably we have been trying?

Makes you wonder if he was even injured these last few weeks.

Not saying we haven't messed up, but don't think you can blame us at this stage, we don't know what's gone on.

The Echo said Werner and Mike Gordon have been involved in trying to get an answer, so it's gone to the top of the club.

I find it simply unbelievable the club would let it drag on to this stage without knowing whether he would
be available or not to play in this period.

The level of incompetence involved, it simply has to be Fifa.

Mane scored as Senegal won their ACON opener 2-0, fecking caant.

It hasn't been an issue for 3 months though.

It's only been an issue since Cameroon suggested they would be calling him up which was about a fortnight ago or something.

I can definitely see FIFA and Cameroon being evasive for two weeks.

I think that's hindsight to be honest.

Why would we plan for this when he hasn't played for them for ages?

There was no reason to believe it would be an issue.

It only became an issue because Cameroon want to make it one.

Every international break in the last however many months he hasn't played for them it could have been an issue but wasn't because they didn't care.

Now they have decided they do, I don't think you can blame the club for not forseeing that.

Fifa's fault, as we all predicted.

"We, the club, did everything we had to do to make this clear but until now we could not get the response we need to be 100 percent sure that he can play," Klopp said.

"It's pretty difficult and pretty frustrating, to be honest. He's been in training for five days and would have been in the squad, 100 percent, maybe on the pitch today, so I don't think it's fair. But we cannot do more and are still waiting on the decision. We could not take the risk."

Liverpool believes Matip has followed all the correct procedures and considers he should be available for selection during a busy period for the club, which is playing Premier League, FA Cup and League fixtures this month.

"We need to get an answer as quickly as possible because on Wednesday we have the next game (an FA Cup third-round replay at Plymouth) and then another game and another game. We cannot wait forever," Klopp said.

"It is public now, we have this problem and we are not the only team with this problem."

Seeing as tomorrow is a Monday morning perhaps they can all get off their fat asses and come into work and do something for a change. Wouldn't count on it though.

Stupid füćkïng bâśtård FIFA!!

I think the problem is Cameroon who are butt hurt for some reason and determined to cause a problem if they can whereas we on the other hand are making sure we don't give them a reason to do so.

The rules can be exploited if we are not careful. I think the lack of confirmation is on purpose, not a matter of FIFA guys not working.

If this was United or Chelsea the lawyers would have been out and the issue would have been resolved in hours. We just pusssy about as always. We did the same with Sakho and his drug fiasco. Small club mentality.

Nyom in the same boat he didn't play for WBA because there wasn't enough clarity. This is what FIFA get for staging a major finals in the middle of the season. They can't honestly believe that playing in January is the best time to host such an event?

posted on 16/1/17

Did he retire though?

I thought he just refused to play for them because they never bothered about picking him until his move to us.

So no clarity on Matip yet
