I've been thinking all summer that Coutinho would stay but there has to be a point where we consider one of these offers.

If it's true they are set to bid £138m, I think we could easily get them up to £150m by the end of the window. You have to say that is an eye watering amount we could re-invest.

We can't reinvest it though as nobody is selling.

What's the point of money when you aren't able to spend it?

Did anyone read the article in the Independent from that Simon guy, who's fairly clued up on LFC stuff.

He said there was a bid from Barca in July.

Exactly. This late into the transfer window it'd be pointless selling him. I think he'll come back from this and still play to his best. He's not been gobbing off or moaning in the press.

A derisory offer of £72m which has nearly doubled since, if reports are to be believed.

Is there a table anywhere of what each club has spent so far?

But if he does get sold (which I doubt btw) then the club cant use the excuse of not having enough time to find a replacement.

PL website I think.

Why because they should've accepted a bid from July? Just shy of a month ago.

They said then he's not for sale, not that the price wasn't suitable, and they've held firm on that stance since.

James Pearce says no sign of a fourth Barca bid yet, but if it does arrive it will be instantly rejected

FSG have done nothing wrong yet.

The worry is if they do sell Coutinho (driving word being if) and don't replace him - then they will make a lot of enemies.

Big if of course.

Yes because every transfer saga starts and ends at the first bid. Proactive planning would've ensured that IF he does get sold then plans were already in place to acquire replacements.

They may well have done this though. They still won't be as good at football.

I don't think the fans would like it.

I don't think the other players would like it.

Not all about the cash but rather developing a group.

All in all we don't actually know a lot do we?

We got told yesterday that Cout was forced into a request. Today we're told Cout is behind asking Barca to come back in for him.

I doubt both can be right.

Agreed.

When the media in this country spout constant crap; how do we actually know what to believe and what not to?

True...I'm just offering a differing view to create debate.

A lot of fans <myself included> expect them to be as good as their word.

If we got VVD and Keita or Kovacic my position would change, but this appears high impossible.

If they were adamant he's not going to be sold why look for replacements? Word gets out that's what they're doing it undermines the whole 'he's not for sale' stance.

VVD also begun his integration back into the team at Southampton by training with the U23s.

Hope fully we can pull a rabbit out of the hat before the window closes.

I still think we are overreliant on Lallana to create from midfield.

Throw Chamberlain or Lanzini in there and I'd be delighted.

Kovacic is a different calibre of player compared to those two imo.
